Skytrak an JNPG loses connection 5 or 6 times a round

I have a SkyTrak an while playing JNPG it drops out every few rounds either with all green lights , a green a yellow and a red or two green lights an a red. It is so annoying having to restart the JNPG or the Skytrak. I brought it to have fun with friends but cannot subject them to it. I have a BT router ( I'm from England ) and contest by Skytrak box through wifi. Any help would be greatly appreciated as it is not worth using like this.

    Thanks

What speed internet connection do you have at router? What if you run speedtest.net on the pc while it's dropping?

Sounds like maybe dodgy wireless signal, how far are you from the hub? Is the pc hardwired or wifi?

The hub is a floor above, but all our other devices work fine. PC is wifi an would be difficult to hard wire directly to the router. I read somewhere about BT routers can drop out but I have no idea about computers attending all.

Have you tried using a USB connection to the Skytrak rather than wireless ? I have gone that route and have had very little issues. There are extension cables you can buy to make it a little longer if you don't have enough cable. Just a thought

Direct from Skytrak to the PC? No I haven't but sounds like something worth trying if its worked for you.

I made a comment on another post when that person had USB issues it's worth reading there are settings in Windows that you can change some USB settings once I made those changes I haven't had one drop using JNPG like I occasionally would before here is a link to the post my reply is down to the bottom looks like the #8 post with screen shots of what Windows 10 uses for power management on USB devices.

Starting a Golf SIM business on our compound in the Middle East. Managed to get a Squash Court and just finishing the painting, flooring, lighting etc. Really

OK, so maybe we can work through that. Skytrak is picky with wifi, it only supports 2.4GHz which is the older standard and has issues with noise and interference.

Have you considered using powerline adapters? You could have one in the wall by router, and then a wifi enabled one by the Skytrak... That's what I have, and I'm 100yds from my hub (was BT up until about a month ago, now talk talk) BT hh6 will sometimes disconnect and reconnect immediately, but it's not 5-6 times a session, more like once a week...

Check your wifi signal strength with either wifi analyzer (android app) or netstumbler (http://www.stumbler.net on PC) You might have noise from other appliances, or the neighbour's wifi. If you do, these apps will show you which channels have conflicts and let you choose one on the router which will work better. 1, 6 & 11 are defaults but you can choose ones in between manually.

Realise you said you're not great with computers, but does all of the above make sense?

Thanks for the advice from everyone, at least I have a few options to go at. I really appreciate it. I am away this weekend but will have a good go at your suggestions. I know these are first world problems but always wanted a sim in my house and now its just not any good. Ganers75 it doesn't make sense 😂 but I have friends who will understand it. I have a power line adaptor in the same room and it hasn't helped. With regards to the USB please forgive my total lack of knowledge but can only see a power slot on the Skytrak ( this is temperamental at the best of times) not a USB port.

Power slot is micro USB, connect other end to PC and it should pick it up via the SkyTrak app

....what worries me is the power cable doesn't stay in there as it is so the usb connection could be a problem but i'll try anything right now

Ok, so when you’re talking to your friends tell them that red yellow green means SkyTrak sees WiFi but can’t connect (reboot router often helps, power off 5s, power on again - but you can’t do that if it’s dropping 5 or 6 times a round). If it sometimes connects, but drops it is likely signal strength or noise. 2.4GHz WiFi powerline (as opposed to standard adapter) will sort it if that’s the issue.

Strongly suggest hard resetting the Skytrak before using the USB as sometimes the stored WiFi can conflict.

By hard resetting, the Skytrak will forget the stored WiFi settings.

Doing this will eliminate any potential internet connectivity conflict that may arise.

Thank Alpha I will try that. Obviously I don't understand computers but my concern would be that if the wifi is dropping and then cant find the Skytrak it will still do it from the PC. As I already have a BT power line adaptor in the room I am worried I will never solve this. But will try everything and will check Silverados link out also.

Do you have a link to your powerline adapter you’re using?

Sorry ganders I am not sure what you mean, it comes up as a separate wifi compared to the normal one the rest of the house uses if that make sense.

Yeah, that’s what I was getting at. Wanted to make sure it was WiFi first, and separate SSID too which it sounds like it is. If that isn’t working then there must be something else going on. Do other machines fall off internet too when you have issue?

Are SkyTrak and PC both connected by WiFi to same BT powerline right now? I’d consider a cable into that powerline from PC to test its working ok.
                    Working...
