Skytrak and TGC Calculations

This is a question that may have been answered but I have not yet found the answer. Does TGC use its own algorithms based on only the Ball speed, Launch angle, spin, etc. from Skytrak that it uses to calculate distance and flight path? Or does it get all of the flight information from Skytrak and then just apply that to the TGC software?

It seems that my golf shots have more draw/fade movement on TGC then they do while I am at the "range" in the Skytrak software. My bigger concern is will the high speed ball tests that Skytrak has been working on carry over into the TGC and TGC 2019. My driver seems to be roughly 10-15 yards sorter on Skytrak and especially on TGC then what I get while actually out on the course.

I want to also mention that I am incredibly impressed by the Skytrak team and the constant work they are doing to improve the user experience. It is truly amazing to see all they work that they put into their product and the response they have to customer feedback that is provided on forums like these.

Any info would be appreciated.

TGC only uses the raw data from Skytrak. It then creates it own ball flight so yes, you will see some discrepancies between the two softwares.

My son has been swinging a golf club since he was 3 or 4 years old. He takes lessons on a really high dollar simulator in town and can get ball speeds consistently with his driver between 117 and 123. We've noticed that he can't get these ball speeds on our SkyTrak at home. He hit several good driver swings the other night and I noticed his highest ball speed was 111 mph with his driver. That really encouraged me, because I am probably also hitting the ball farther in real life than what SkyTrak is showing. TGC 2019 is somewhere between 15 - 20 yards farther than the SkyTrak range with my driver.

I have heard of st having trouble with 160mph ball speeds but nothing in the low 100 range like you're stating. I can only speak from personal experience with my own swing and ST results and they are very accurate. My driver speeds are 145mph to 155mph. With around a 100mph club speed. I have tested this on a gc2 and track man and get similar results on ST.

Have you updated your ST to the latest version I believe the latest version is 3.3.2.

So my SkyTrak is v3.3.2. What I can't figure out is my son will go to his lesson and hit on a TruGolf E6 simulator. He consistently can hit over 200 yards with his driver with a 4 - 5 mph headwind, but when he swings his driver on our SkyTrak with no wind he's lucky to get one over 180 yards? Our garage has an 11 foot ceiling so the indoor swing shouldn't apply, because the TruGolf simulator he does lessons on has a lower ceiling than our garage. I always felt like my numbers were pretty good compared to real life, but now I'm questioning my own driver numbers.

My son is in the 135-140 mph range, and it is quite close to Trackman numbers. The ST calculated carry is just a bit short of real world numbers. My daughter's ball speed is around a 100 mph, again close to Trackman and slightly short of real life. My best estimate (very anecdotal) is that ST is about 1.5% short on average, so I juiced the numbers slightly by putting elevation at 1500 feet (our course is just above sea level). Again, very anecdotal, but puts it right on real world carry, so I am sticking with it.

Thanks all. I was hitting my driver last night after posting this and was getting in the 140-150 MPH ball speed with my driver. There are plenty of threads about ST not having accurate data with high swing/ball speeds and it sounds like the fixes are currently being tested.

I am so excited for TGC 2019, Skytrak 3.4 and 4.0! Like I said in the original post i am always incredibly impressed with ST responsive nature and the crowd sourcing it does for new ideas.
