SkyTrak App Enhancement and Feature Requests

I like to see the ability to aim to right or left of center. Right now you have to "open" or "close" the SkyTrak to your target line in order to accomplish this. also top scores / closest to pin distance per yardage. Being able to swap from direct/network connect better would be very helpful as I like to be on direct more as the wait time is nothing.

When you talk about hitting to the right or left, do you mean that you can't just leave the SkyTrak lined up parallel to the hitting area and then just you aim your body and your shot to the left or right?

For instance, the GC2 can be lined up straight and if your aim line on the sim is in the center of the fairway and you want to hit to the right side, you just aim your body and shot more right and the GC2 picks up the shot as starting right (or in the push pull number would show a 4 or 5 deg to the right) and you see your shot as it is going right.

Or are you saying there is no target visually to move on whatever screen you view the shot on and thus it is harder to see where you are aimed at?

Unless I am doing something wrong, I would position right stance and club face and swing down target line as you would to promote a draw. ST does not seem to pick it up so well (ball goes right - draws left). Maybe I am not moving right as much as I need to.? The way I have gotten around it has been to close the ST to the target line and swing as if you were playing it straight down the target line. In terms of a visual target, be cool to have that similar to optishot where you move the target to where you want to aim and swing. of course, doing what is necessary to promote the ball flight you are looking for.

When you hit the driver the distance numbers are about 30 yards shorter than actual, it seems that it might be because of the back spin. Back spin numbers are in the high 3000 and low 4000, when I have used Trackman the spin numbers are about 1500 to 2000 lower. By the way I allso have an Es14 and those spin numbers are allot lower also. The numbers for irons seem to be very close.

The ES14 does not measure spin, it estimates it based on its algorithm and measured swing speed and ball speed plus input data about club loft.

Don't rely on the ES14. Why not take your Skytrak to check it with the Trackman side by side. Let us know what you find.

Thank you , I am planning on doing that, a friend of mine has a trackman but you have to be outside for his.
My experience with the es14 is that smash factor and club head speed measures close to actual.
I will post results when I get it

I went to the videos on the SkyTrak website, and viewed the one called Skytrak Product Overview. In it, the pro hits an 8-iron, and the screen shows the results. Have a look. Stop the video when it gets to the shot results. First, the unit is set to a 3-wood. This is pretty wrong right off the mark. Second, while the yardage is 149, which is about how far the pro says he hits his 8-iron, the club speed is shown as 66 mph and launch angle 16 degrees. For an 8-iron. I can't see an 8-iron swung at 66 mph going 149 yards, or even close. Or being launched at 16 degrees. Maybe this screen is just for illustration purposes, but they should know that guys like us will be watching. So, I'm not sure what to make of this. I'd like to hear what the company says.

It's a launch monitor similar to the GC2. Club selection is not needed. Club selection is only there for shot history tracking.

And like the GC2, it only measures the ball. Club speed is just an estimation. Means nothing.

It is quite a bit of reading, but you will understand its strengths and weaknesses. Based on my experience, Skytral is worth every penny I spent.

My Skytrak numbers are ridiculously close to my Trackman numbers.

The ES14 estimates the launch angle and the spin rates based upon club head and ball speed plus the loft of the club that has been preset into the application. On that basis, it is not a good idea to compare the ES14 with the Skytrak.

I think that you might have indeed been spinning the ball excessively with your driver. What are the launch angles that were recorded on the Skytrak? Where are your impact points on the driver? Low launch and low impact points on the driver face will have higher spin rates. You indeed will see a loss in distance of nearly 30 yards when spin increases from say 2500 rpm up to 4000 rpm, (for a ball speed around 142 mph that is likely produced from a swing speed of 100 mph).

Were you using the same ball and condition of the ball that you were using on the Trackman? Range balls can spin more and drag more if they are in poor condition compared to a new ball like a Titleist NXT.

I have found that nearly all of my clients overestimate/overstate their distances and club speeds compared to test results on my Flightscope X2 launch monitor. Don't discount the results that you see with your driver using the Skytrak until you see/understand the cause and affect of impact and ball conditions.

Part of my problem with the spin was my bad swing. Once I got that worked out the spin numbers on the driver have come down to 2300 to 2800 still higher than I want to be.
I am only using the SkyTrak to work on my game I do not have a simulator.

Glad to hear you figured it out about odd spin numbers for your driver. As far as I know, your spin numbers (2300-2800) are similar to pro numbers. I believe they are really good numbers. There aren't many actual cumulative numbers of professional golfers, but you can take a peek at the trackman numbers of Justin Rose at http://youtu.be/43u0rlZ3s_E. All you need to do is find the optimal launch angle for your ball speed regarding the driver shots, if I can dare to say. I wish I could hit that kind of spin numbers.

If you are used to seeing real life results for 4400 feet above sea level, then I would expect to see about a 9 to 10 yard increase in carry distance versus results obtained at sea level, keeping all other parameters equal.

I don't think that 2300 to 2800 rpm spin rates are too high. I think they can be ideal depending upon your ball speed.

Use the Trajectoware program that is available for free download to double check your data output from the Skytrak lauch monitor. You can adjust environmental parameters as well as launch data just by scrolling with the mouse and you instantly see the effect the change has on distance, trajectory, launch angle, ball speed, etc. Trajectoware is really only suitable for driver and low lofted fairway woods though because the algorithm is not suited for spin rates outside 1000 to 4000 rpm.
