  • Hitting Mats

So am I correct in my research on here that Fiberbuilt is the way to go for a great all-around hitting mat? Seems to get high praises on here, especially for helping with ST accuracy. I'm interested in other options too, especially now that the 4x5 FB mats are all sold out. Not sure when they'll be available again.

I started off with an old mat I got from a driving range for free and it gave me the shanks. I moved on to the cce mat next and it was a huge upgrade but I felt like I wasn’t getting the right distances with my irons and I’m a digger so fat shots would destroy my arms. I just recently bought the sklz glide pad and I love it so far it plays like the divot action and uses the same turf as the cce. I’ve had no pain in my arms since switching and I still use my cce as an expensive stance mat. Everybody’s different you gotta find what works for you.

The "home" version of the 4x5 is back in stock at fiberbuilt. Call them directly. $499. The only difference is the 3 vs 4 foot hitting area (3 is plenty....the first and last 6 inches are unusable anyway), that you have to assemble the home version with zipties (15 minutes or so), and that there are some styrofoam pads under the stance mat in the home version, which I am totally fine with.

Here's an anecdote that some may find interesting. I have a CCE and cannot for the life of me hit a fairway metal consistently well. My ball comes out slow and extremely low. When I head out to the course or grass range I'm flushing my fairway metal over and over again. I hit the ball high and way longer than read on my CCE/skytrak setup.

I think this is an issue of SkyTrak misreading launch and ball speed and/or CCE slowing my club down to the extreme.

Interesting. I can’t swing my 3 wood in my set up but my hybrid reads just fine off the CCE.

I have no problems and find that my yardages are pretty consistent with my fairway metals. I actually think its easier to hit my old 3w off the CCE than it is off actual fairway... Maybe the only place I would say I see a different ball flight is with my 3i Hybrid. On course i tend to see a bit higher ball flight.

The reason I started by saying it's an anecdote is because it won't apply to everyone. I'm a somewhat steep player (medium depth divots) and I think this definitely plays into the equation.

I bought this one, great mat for the money.

The $499 home version of the fiberbuilt 4x5 is back in stock, despite the website incorrectly stating otherwise.

I've had FB 1x3 panel for about a month now. It feels great, but the nylon pieces(bristles) come off each time I use it. Is this normal? I get anout 15-20 bristles come off the hitting mat that I have to clean after each day.

I wish I knew about the costco special when I crossed the border last month. I did buy the flightdeck right from the Fiberbuilt website. However, I just noticed it for $79 Canadian from Amazon, free shipping with prime. Almost half of what my total cost was.

Since I don't have a stance mat, I picked up a 4x6 3/4 inch thick rubber mat from a fitness store for $60. I will cut a perfect fit hole for the flightdeck, Then glue on some foam mats and green rug to get the stance height level to flightdeck. It should be very stable, as it weighs 100 lbs. Right now, the flightdeck slides all over the place when I hit iron shots.

this is just a strip built in on a bigger stance mat. you can get those strips for about 250 each, I just bought two of them and they now sit beside My CCE 4x5 mat. Its a game changer for me as the CCE was completely destroying my left elbow. I have had to take a couple weeks hear and their for healing as its been getting really bad. The new Fiber built strips are night and day, just have to get used to the putting as the putter head likes to float a bit when its set directly on top of the fiber built. I find that if you barely slide it across to the ball it fixes that though.

I am not prone and really liked my CCE mat, But now i see the light. I am athletic and not prone to injury. I play a lot of golf and also tennis and disc golf, for the most part i dont get injury other then a pec muscle thing couple of years ago. But now I sit here and wonder will my elbow ever be the same, it just kinda creeped in and got worse and worse. I have a left handed buddy that plays with me all the time so it was 500.00 for two strips and I didnt want to do it but with the pain I had no choice. My only regret now is why i put that cost in front of my healthy elbow. Again it was a game changer for me.

I recently setup my SkyTrak home swing studio and opted for the Gorilla Perfect Reaction hitting mat....and I LOVE IT!!

I got the 5' x 10' model, which is great for catching the ball when it hits the screen, and you can use a real tee in it. I can hit down and through the ball with no shock resonating up my arm. A fat shot acts very similar to what you see on real grass (does not bounce up and skip into the ball like thin mats, giving a false impact), and wedges feel pretty real when hitting down and compressing the ball. Plus, it doesn't leave green plastic on the bottom of your clubs.

Also, I found it to be very reasonably priced at $375, given the larger size.

I also really enjoy my gorilla mat but I would recommend not using a real tee. It works fine but over time the fibers start to separate in the area you use the tee and it creates a depression that the ball will gravitate to. As I said, I love the mat but I wish I never used real tees.

just for anyone curious. Like stated above the 4 x 5 fiberbuilt mat is available through fiberbuilt just there website has not been updated. The owner of fiberbuilt himself gave me a call when I put in an inquiry and I placed the order.
