  • SkyTrak Metal Case

Ok so how important is that metal case, are people shanking balls into the launch monitor that often? I know it's good insurance just in case but I thought I read on here some folks have issues with the case regarding the laser/lens, etc. I'm thinking of passing on the case, I just can't imagine shanking one that bad but then again.....

Depends... are you just trying to save money? What’s another $200 to make sure you don’t break it when you inevitably shank it?

also, it’s not just protection from you. Like driving, I’m worried about the other idiots on the road. You gonna have friends over?

I haven't come close to hitting my skytrak but sure wouldn't use it without the case. It's insurance. Any repair to the device will be more expensive than the case. It's also helpful for levelling out the device and matching the height of the mat.

        -cheap insurance
        -it's a tank
-i've never hit it in a bajillion shots, but had a couple buddies try it out... I think they were scared to hit it, causing them to swing so far towards their toes that they toe'd it into the unit

Ok, sounds like it's worth the cost as insurance. Thanks folks!

I did think about the "friends" part and that alone is reason enough.

Here is my anecdote.. took my sim up to our country club this weekend to let my fellow SRCC members try out the virtual version I built in TGC 2019. I think about 4 swings in I hear a loud "TING"!

Ball bounced right off the front of my skytrak metal case. No damage at all it didn't skip a beat. If that had hit the skytrak itself it would have been in 100 pieces. You paid $1700-2000 for the SkyTrak.. pay the extra 10% and buy a metal case!

Hi Dan - The protective cases we offer are the only ones provisioned to work with SkyTrak. Any other case you buy outside of SkyTrak will cause misreads.

Bought my SkyTrak in Dec 2016 and clanged my first shot off of the metal case yesterday... didn't skip a beat and kept on playing... well worth the investment, cuz you never know....

I haven't nailed mine yet but some friends have. I always kind of close my eyes and then peek, .........so far, so good. A couple of them clanged it pretty hard too.

I imagine if the case is hit hard enough it would throw the alignment off or is it pretty stable?

My ST is sitting next to my hitting surface on a separate block of wood, so if it knocks it out of line I can easily just nudge it back in place. The block of wood is aligned to the hitting surface and matches the FiberBuilt in height.

I agree with much of what was said here. The metal case, even if it's never used, is good "piece of mind" if nothing else. Having an IT background, I'm crazy protective of my electronics so I handle the device with kids gloves as-is, and I'm about a year in and have never come close to hitting the case, but I feel like it's sturdy enough that I don't have to worry so that is worth the price itself. Someone mentioned the repair cost out-weighing the cost of the case, and theoretically that idea fits too, but unfortunately out of nowhere I started having issues where I'm getting all mis-reads and had to send my device in for repair... so for me that didn't work out, but hopefully it does for you.
