When will Skytrak release upgrades for 2018 TGC purchasers?
So just chatted with Skytrak support and was told that if you purchased and registered after January 1, 2018 that you should receive an email with upgrade instructions by next week sometime. This is the most information they have given up to this point, so hopefully it's getting close.

I just purchased mine a few days ago, was told the same thing regarding an upgrade to 2019. I do understand the frustration with those holders of the earlier version and not having a free upgrade. I've seen that go both ways when it comes to software. Some companies offer free upgrades for life, others want to make $ off new and improved updates
You don't understand? Its the fact they offer a yearly subscription and a life-time license...
Whats the point of buying a lifetime license @1k when the game is obsolete in 1 year. Might as well just buy the yearly subscription at 500 and get both games for less money?
I interpret a lifetime license is for use of their software. When you purchase a license to use MS Office in Windows, you don't get free upgrades to newer versions. I had Office 2013 and guess what, that didn't include an upgrade to Office 365. Like I said, it depends on the company.
JackedUp - It's been a long time since TGC came out so I'm not sure what you referring to with Windows coming out every year. And for what it's worth, Windows 7 was a disaster so they had to upgrade people.
Just curious what the difference is between someone buying the “lifetime” in November/ December of 17 say for a Xmas present to take advantage of the Xmas sale and someone buying the same software 2 months later in January 18 and getting the upgrade/ update whatever they want to call it? They both bought the same software, so why is does one get the upgrade and one doesn’t?
With any line in the sand there will always be the person that misses it by days but if the line isn’t drawn then everyone gets it free (which I appreciate is what many people are asking for but I suspect that’s not financially viable for Protee).
I don’t know exactly when but at some point in 2018 the wording became very blunt that buying TGC now came with a free upgrade to TGC 2019. Until I read that wording I held off buying because the update versus upgrade debate hadn’t been resolved to my liking and I was nervous about spending $1000 on something I’d use for 6 months then have to buy the new version. In hindsight I wish I’d just waited and bought TGC 2019 directly as while I’m now confident I will get my free upgrade I think I would have been less annoyed with the rollout of this for Skytrak users if I was simply waiting for them to start selling TGC 2019 on their website versus the weird some people got upgraded earlier than others without real clarity at the time (it’s more clear now).

The difference between updates and upgrades.
Updates in computer hardware and software are patches of code that are released in order to address certain issues or to activate specific functionalities. The need to release an update stems from the fact that there are certain problems that are not apparent before the product is released. An upgrade is the act of replacing your product with a newer, and often more superior, version or similar product. Therefore, an update modifies your current product while an upgrade totally replaces it.
For commercial software, there is also the issue of cost. Updates are always free as they are not distinct software but are only meant to modify a pre-existing installation. On the other hand, upgrades are distinct and do not need the older software to function. You can expect to pay full price for the upgrade, though some offer discounts for those who own the older version.
Summary
An update is a patch that is made available after the product has been released, often to solve problems or glitches, while an upgrade is the replacement of an older version of one product to a newer one.
There could be many updates for a certain product but only few upgrades.
Updates are often free while an upgrade would cost money.
Updates are often necessary while upgrades are not.

@ christopherknoop. Too add to your point, MS only gives free upgrades when they stop supporting the current version as is the case with Win 7 which will happen in 2020.
