  • First range session outside (w/o skytrak)

First range session w/o ST today. I must say... I am very pleased with the way I hit the ball. I hit baby draws all day. Very consistent with the expectional bigger draws.

However, my typical shot on ST was not even close to what I just saw in real life. 70% shots the ST registers is big draw/hook - like 10-30 yards offline.

Just last night in my practice session 90% landed left of target, and of those 90% shots, easily 70% landed more than 10-15 yards left of pin.

Im on mobile and it doesn’t look like any history transfers to the mobile app so I can’t post my stats right now.

I dont have ranges with mats in town so I can’t confirm flight outdoors but hope to someday.

Ive posted a lot about how I feel my Skytrak is defective and I think seeing true ball flight confirms that.

Could it be the CCE mat as well? I just don’t understand how over the course of three months my typical shot is a big ass hook. Literally my average shot on ST is this big 15+ yard hook all the way through the bag.

Any one have any ideas how there could be such a glaring difference?

    Hi Caleb,

When you get a chance, could you tell us the spin axis of some of your hooks. The amount off line doesn't tell the whole story as we don't know what the HLA was. You could always feed your ball data into flight scope trajectory optimizer to check. I am fairly sure that it does take spin decay into account.I still don't think it is much for baby draws. Maybe a yard.

I compared my unit to Trackman indoor, and ball speed, VLA, spin and spin axis were very close. The two known sources of error is HLA and high ball speed with driver. I added 1500 feet elevation, and my carry numbers are very close to real life.

I see my 6-LW with normal draw to big hooks with wedges on the SkyTrak and R-Motion but was at the driving range hitting off of grass (mainly sand) and never seen one hook even shots I "thought" was going to hook based off the last 6 months of swings were just slight draws. Not a complaint as I was extremely happy with my ball striking with all clubs and never seeing a hook for me is a GREAT thing. I think it just has something to do with how the algorithms work with the draw spin as most of my "hooks" normally start center or slight left where anything that has started right will be just a nice draw unless its that dang ole push cut
So just a follow up on this subject. I FINALLY got to actually play on a real course today!!! Since my range session last week till today I used the SkyTrak 3 times for about an hour each. And will say the same shot types as normal. On the course today I hit one HUGE hook with my driver and that was it. Not one wedge shot was a draw.. most were pretty darn straight and the rest of the irons through 6 iron were little baby draw but mostly straight.

I feel my SkyTrak is aligned properly and the shot shapes are accurate just seems to be there is a tendency to turn a draw a bit more into an over-draw. As long as I am not seeing it on the course and this is in SkyTrak world only I am perfectly happy with it!

So I just had a golf trip to TreeTops in Northern Michigan.

I feel like a complete jackass... My range session in the OP was just a range session where I just so happened to be hitting the ball very well. Not sure what it was that made me hit the ball so well but I can tell everyone here that I am sorry.

I can admit that ST is right... Once I got on the course, Those big over draws happened time after time over the 4 rounds we played this weekend.

My ST is fine other than the alignment which is maybe a degree or two offset to the left.

I'm heading up to gaylord next week to play treetops and other courses in gaylord. How was it? Were the courses super wet?

JackedUpSwing - It was amazing. We literally couldn't have picked a better weekend to go for the Spring Sale.

for $120 we got a hotel and played:
Masterpiece (Unreal... kind of a gimmicky course but fun as hell none the less). Shot an 83 from the blues
          Premier. 84 from the blues
ThreeTops. YIKES 37!!!!! This was early morning, hungover, and 1 minute late for our tee time
Signature. Yikes again, 89. This was closer to your typical course but still have the TreeTops flavor.

In all, the courses were in classic spring shape. The tee boxes didn't really look to be mowed recently. I found standing water in 2 places on all 4 courses. Nowhere throughout the grounds did I step in an area that was watery. It was essentially perfect minus the fact that they are about two weeks behind as far as grass and foliage growth grows compared to us in SWMI.

Nice shooting! Yeah, I've never played up there I was searching on TGC and was really hoping to find some of the treetops courses on there to get used to the courses, but no dice.

Did you use the groupgolfer vouchers for the trip? We got them again and are going back later this summer. You can't beat that voucher price. They sold like 9500 of them this year.

I’m not sure, my buddy is their email list and sent the email to a few of us on Sunday. By Monday morning we were booked and by Friday we were on our way.

I know they do a lot of those early/late season deals. We went maybe 7 years ago in the fall and it was on a frost delay the first morning then rained/sleeted the next day. Needless to say, this weekend we finally got the full experience.

Ive done that voucher trip a couple times. It used to be $99. Either way great deal good times. One hotel room I stayed in felt like I went back in time to the 70s!
My favorite 1 signature 2. Premier 3. Three tops
          4. Masterpiece. 5. Tradition.

That’s correct Coz. We did $99 but added Masterpiece for the extra $20.

I think you got a good order there. Hard to really rate Premier and Masterpiece bc there really aren’t courses in this country that resemble such elevation changes.

I remember thinking at the turn on Masterpiece “this must be the only place in the states that has a course like this. No way could I play this everyday”.

Masterpiece was brutal. Fairways played narrower than they were kicking away. I thought I finally got a fairway at the masterpiece and damn thing ran like 40 yards down a hill and almost to the woods. The Fazio fairways were to my liking like a bowl. Always kicking back to the fairway!

My home course is uber undulated so I’m humbled sometimes.
Yeah I bought a used one and I find it to be spot on. Even at high ball speeds which based on reading other threads I assumed was impossible. I'm getting accurate numbers from 150-170 mph

How do you know your getting accurate numbers? My new launch monitor is a bit faster across the board. I had them both at the same time to compare.

Because I've spent lots of time on GC2 and know my numbers

My experience was different. I had both skytrak and gc2 and my skytrak lagged across the board with the separation increasing as speed increased. The skytrak had way more non reads also and of course the delay.
With that said I loved my skytrak and the skytrak app but I can't say they were the equal in ball speeds.

I hag to bust a nut to get skytrak in the 160s but not with the gc2. My carries outdoors match the gc2.
