  • Skytrak and Live View Golf

I have just purchased a Live View Golf video system to compliment my Skytrak launch monitor. I have run into problems that the two devices seem to be interfering with each other and the Skytrak either does not read shots or the shots are very delayed. I run the Skytrak in Network mode with a PC and I suspect that the Wifi network created by the Live View Golf video camera may be interfering with it. Has anyone encountered this problem and if so, have you found a solution?

Following. I almost always connect in direct mode via my ipad pro. I have been thinking about using my old ipad to utilize the live view golf system as I have been working on a few swing changes this season.

I worked with Live View Golf and they concur that the problems are caused by the two Wifi networks interfering with each other. I did some research and found that it was possible to change the channel of the wifi network to avoid interference (e.g. running the Live View Golf on a wifi channel that does not overlap the house's wifi network channel). Live View Golf supports being able to set the camera to run on a different wifi channel but this feature does not currently work and they indicated that they would get if fixed in a future release. However, I was able to change the channel of my home wifi and this appears to have solved the interference problem.

You guys think this is the best setup for SkyTrak and to have a camera to see what you are doing with swing? I too am working on a bunch of stuff and would love to get views of swing on another tv after hitting on skytrak. ... other options?

If you have both an iPhone and iPad, the Mirror Vision app is pretty amazing for both viewing yourself in real-time and recording swings. Highly recommended, and way less money and better cameras than Live View.

Using FaceTime, you can FaceTime yourself using two different accounts and have live view from one device to another. There is a bit of a delay, but it was still quite useable when I tried it. Certainly not as good as the live view device from what I’ve seen.

I stumbled onto a way to view your swing while practicing. If you set up a simple webcam and use OBS (Open Broadcast Software) then stream it to Twitch there is a few second delay. That way you can hit your shot then have enough time to view it on your monitor. I have it set up where half the screen is the SkyTrak and the other half is my DTL view.

I think most people use OBS with Replay Source. That way you get any delay you want plus slow motion. No need to stream to twitch just to get a delayed data stream.

hmmm, if only I could figure out how to do that. Like I mentioned, I stumbled into doing it this way...Thanks though

There's a thread explaining how. I'm sure it will show up in search. Pretty simple.

So OBS with replay source and a keayeton usb camera is the vote?

If you got the cash go to swing catalyst and buy one of their supported cameras. IF you want to go the DIY and nearly as good route Keayeton and OBS is the best way I have found so far. I can help you setup OBS.

I would like to better understand the OBS approach. Is it a camera physically connected to the PC? Do you control the camera from the PC (e.g. start/stop recording, replay video, etc)? is the video captured and replayed from the PC? Can you use an iPad instead of the PC? Sorry for all of the questions but a brief overview of the OBS approach would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Cameras are connected via usb, the start stop is all triggered via sound, you can not use iPad, its a computer program, specifically windows. But its all free so why not

There is an app in the itunes app store called BAM (bust a move) that allows you to play a live video on a delay (video plays continuously 5s/10s after it records). The android equivalent is called Video coach. This allows you to swing, then walk over to your ipad/phone and watch the replay of your swing without having to start/stop recording. I use this app on a tripod at the range and sounds like it may suit what you are looking for too.

iPad screen can be mirrored to an apple tv if you don't want to have to walk over to your tablet to review the swing.

Thanks for the suggestion. BAM sounds very interesting and what I am looking for if I can mirror it to a TV or PC. Does it support recording and playing back in slow motion? What do you have to do to start a new swing recording?

BAM isn't like other apps where you start and stop recording each swing. Think of it more like a mirror, that has a 10 second delay before it 'reflects' what just happened.

I have only used the android equivalent of bam (from a different developer) so I can't speak to different features. Worth a google though.

I tired Bust a Move Video Delay (BAM) on my iPhone and combined this with aPowerMirror running on the PC which mirrors the iPhone to a Windows PC. With BAM running in slow motion with about a 2 second delay, the result is reasonable to hit a shot, see the ball flight on Skytrak and shortly after see the swing that created the shot. Attached is a still picture of what I see after the shot.

Looks cool! How is the quality? Is the video playback smooth?

The video quality is good and the playback is smooth in regular speed. However, in slow motion, there is some blur on the downswing. I would like to see more of a frame-by-frame playback to hopefully eliminate some of the blur and supposedly this is supported by Bust a Move Video Delay. I haven't figured out how to use this mode yet but I do plan to work on it.
                    Working...
