  • Skytrak issue with laser curtain after less than a year??

I'm new to the forum but have been looking around since purchasing my skytrak just under 1 year ago.

So, I was in the middle of a bag mapping session yesterday when all of a sudden the skytrak unit stopped registering shots. I messed around with a bunch of things (network mode, direct mode, reinstalling the app, hard reseting the unit, restarting my home network, taking it out of the metal case, etc) and nothing seems to work.

Then I switched the unit from right hand to left hand shot and took a few shots with the unit directly in front of me, and boom, it registered the shots. Reading up on this it seems that the laser curtain for right hand shots has gone.

The unit has never had a ball strike (or any other strike for that matter) and is 11 months old, with no more that 2,000 shots on it. It doesn't seem normal for the laser curtain to go so easily on a relatively new unit. I would have kind of expected the hardware to have a longer life span.

Has anyone else been through this and got their unit repaired? I'm worried that even if i get it repaired, the laser curtain will be dead in 1 year and need replacing...

I'll be contacting skytrak today, but just wanted to share this with the good people of this forum.

    Alex

Yes happened to quite a few people and if you bought about a year ago, i think that's the timeframe for the units that had this issue. Coincidence maybe, but i suspect they got a bad lot of parts with how many that came up.

Hi wbond, thanks for the reply. I guess this is partially why the Skytrak only comes with a 6 month warranty. Usually companies that believe in their product will offer longer warranties and stand behind their products. With this many laser curtain issues coming up, it does look like a manufacturing batch went wrong somewhere, and you would think @Skytrak would issue a repair program to right the situation for their customers (even if out of warranty).

In principle, I never get extended warranty, as 99 times out 100, nothing happens. I just didn't expect the 1% to happen to a CAD $2,500 golf gadget.

I'll update once I speak to Skytrak about the situation.

If you paid with a CC, some of them offer additional warranties, might want to check yours out if you did.

This is a horrible look for ST. It would be nice to see them fix affected units free of charge. It's one thing if it happens 2-3 years down the road but having to pay for a repair within a year that is 15-20% of the cost of the SkyTrak is enough to make you want to leave and never come back. I feel for you...

I agree that it is not good customer relations ... with the large number of failures barely out of warranty, this is clearly a defective part.

A fair solution would be to at the very least give credit towards game improvement package for the amount of the repair.

Hey wbond, thanks for the tip!!!

Turns out my credit card does double the manufacture warranty. “Good thing” my Skytrak unit malfunctioned with 7 days to spare before the double up period ends.

Claim filed and unit sent to Skytrak. Crossing my fingers that I can squeeze out the repair free of charge to me.

              ill keep you guys posted.

No problem, hopefully it works out for you. I had one of the very first batches, i think i was the second one to get one and had it for over three years with no issue. Good luck.

Looks like you got the Unit taken care of through your CC, if anything else is needed I would try and PM Seth. I am one of the guys that got the bad batch and I didn't get the extended warranty either for the same reasons you have stated. I was taken care, you can find the old thread about all of this with a search as it hit a few of us around the same time in less than a year.
