Skytrak—iPad or Laptop?

Decided on a Skytrak for my outdoor simulator set up. Will be using it in my screened in lanai/patio, no sun exposure to the system which I’m hoping will allow it to perform well. I will be hitting into a net and will view on either an iPad or laptop that’s on a stand—may be able to mount a tv too.

I am debating on either running WGT and purchasing an iPad but was also thinking of getting a gaming laptop and running TGC on there but not sure if it’ll be worth it as I won’t be using a projector and maybe not even a tv as mentioned above.

any thoughts given the info provided above?

I started with the iPad Pro, WGT, and ST range. I was happy with the results compared to just hitting into a net without a LM. However, within 7 months I had upgraded to a gaming laptop and TGC. There is a shorter delay with the laptop and the options with TGC blow WGT out of the water.

What laptop did you get? Was hoping to find something in the $500 range if I went that route

some good 2nd hand laptops or desktops can be found for that price... its mainly the graphics card that needs to be strong. i believe a gtx1050 or above will be ok.

You are essentially choosing between ST range on ipad (and WGT) and non-projected TGC.

If you already own ipad, just start with that. Else use your phone until you make a decision about TGC. To get an idea of the experience of non-projected sim, borrow an old notebook and run free demo of Fitness golf.

I bought an HP Omen 15” i7, with a RTX 2060.

Probably (definitely) severe overkill....but I wanted to be assured I could max the settings, take it on the road if I start designing, and I only buy new.

I sold my NetReturn, built my own EMT frame, bought screen from the mill...so money saved/recouped allowed that laptop for $1199 at MicroCenter in Dallas, in store only, if there’s one near you.

I am using a SKILZ net. Just need to configure it so that I can hit both driver and wedges into it. Using it on my patio and I have a lot of glass windows/doors around it, hopefully no shanks lol.

Now just need the Skytrak to go on sale. I think it was just recently $300 off so hopefully they run that again soon

Still happy with ST/WGT on an iPad with a connector to 55" TV.
