Should i get the FMJ case?

    Hi,

Got my dear skytrak a couple a weeks ago. The unit seem to work perfect, it reads every shot as it should and can already see the how it can improve my game.

I’ve been reading mostly here on this site about users who bought the case have had some issues with ST not reading the shots as well as without the case.

It could just be a loud minority syndrom, so just wanted to hear from others here, who has the case and are happy with it.

Folk with less good experiences, are of course welcome to chime in as well.

    Thank you!

100% not even a question. It's a $2,000 mistake waiting to happen. As far as Miss reads just make sure the unit is positioned properly

YES do get the protection... there have been no read issues for me. I suspect it has saved me a fair chunk of £$£ on a couple of occasions... as ever, I blame the kids.

Thank you, i guess it’s best to get the case. It looks premium and well made on the pictures i’ve seen which is a nice bonus.

Without question get the case. I just got my Skytrak last week and the case has already proved itself as a good investment.

Agreed on case. I’ve not hit mine with a ball yet but guests and my kids have. I did hit mine with an iron walking past (not swinging) that I suspect may also not have been great on the plastic case.

Mine rarely no reads or misreads (or at least misreads so bad I know it’s not just the guy swinging the club).

I'll be the dissenting opinion. Unless you need an easy way to level the unit (using it in different spots often, etc) or you have very suspect golfers using it, I wouldn't get the case. I can't even fathom the kind of mishit you'd have to have to actually hit the skytrak with a ball. I'm no pro golfer (about a 7-10) handicap, I've hit shanks, blades toes, you name it and not even come close to hitting the skytrak.

Don't jinx yourself. I saw a guy toe a hybrid into a skytrak at a local golf shop shattered the plastic protective case but the skytrak survived it.

I am a decent golfer(9 handicap) and I had the FMJ when I had a skytrak. It was well worth it. I hit the FMJ several times by extreme toeing a practice swing. It happens and a 100 dollars for peace of mind that your 2k investment will be protected(plus ease of leveling) is well worth it.

I agree with everyone suggesting to get the FMJ. I have hit the FMJ with shanks as well as accidentally once with swinging a 3 iron. The SkyTrak and FMJ has withstood the abuse. Although there have been posts where folks have recommended to take the SkyTrak out of the FMJ for trouble shooting purposes. I don't recall reading anyone saying they thought the FMJ was the culprit.

I am sure you have read the importance of keeping the bottom of the SkyTrak level with your hitting surface. The FMJ helps with this since it has the adjustable 'legs'.

Haven't hit the case yet but that doesn't mean it's not a good idea to have it just in case.

okay seriously, and I mean no disrespect I swear. How in the hell did you hit the skytrak with a 3 iron?

No worries! It was a lapse in maturity, I had just gotten my FiberBuilt mat and didn't know about keeping the ST level with the mat. I kept getting 'no read' after 'no read' and while a ball was bouncing I tried to hit it in mid-air and apparently I stepped too far toward the ST. Fortunately, both the ST and FMJ held up and I haven't had any issues.

cmckelvmi First problem is trying to hit a 3 iron . Did the 3 iron come out unscathed?

Yeah, the 3 iron survived too.

Thank you all! I ordered a case. But like Jut111 i have never shot a ball in that direction, yet and i’m a mid handicapper. But i can really see how having the ST so close to the impact zone is making indoor swing syndrome even more real.

I guess having the case also makes the unit more easy to sell, if that day comes.

Thanks a lot for the input from everybody!

I had a friend over and his very swing he nuked a shank straight off the FMJ case. So glad I have it.

Agree with all above... Get the Case! You may not hit it but if you have friends over, especially newbies... They can and will hit it. I had the plastic case on mine and just had to send it in for a new motherboard repair and housing... $519.00 plus shipping.
