Skytrak vs. GC2

Looking to buy either a Skytrak or Foresight GC 2 . I’m not very interested in playing courses, I just want to be able to “hit the range” during long winter months and practice during the summer. I’m also interested in making changes to my swing and will be looking to hookup cameras (side and back) to help with that. I know a lot about the Skytrak but don’t know too much about GC2 and t he software and I’m having trouble finding a lot of information so here are a bunch of questions:

• Does GC2 have range software with practice targets like Skytrak?
• Which one has better data? Looking for face to path, launch angle, spin, etc.
• Is it worth upgrading to GC2 given that I only want to use it for the range?
• Does either system have integrated software where I can record a swing and look at angles (e.g.swing plane)?
• Can you use GC2 outside in the summer?

Apologies if this has already been discussed but just trying to gather more info. I was originally going to go with the full setup w/ Skytrak (projector, screen, etc.) but I’m now thinking of just using that money for the upgraded launch monitor and going with a net/ipad setup. My practice time is now limited given our first child arrived early!

Happy to hear opinions and feedback on programs to use to help w/ the above.

GC2 with software will be in the ball park of $4k to $6k, while you get everything SkyTrak with about $2k. It came down to $ for me when I faced this dilemma some time ago. Hope this helps.

Neither gives you any club data that is measured. You can get it on the GC2 if you add the HMT module which is another 3.5-4k or so. GC2 works fine outdoors, skytrak is a little more troublesome due to light, grass and smaller FOV. GC2 has tighter tolerances on their readings since they take more pictures for their data points.

As they are both photometric, they are more similar than different. Both portable. As mentioned, neither does club data (on their own). ST cleverly uses much cheaper components, and is close to GC2 in terms of accuracy. The ST struggles with high ball speeds (160+ mph). There is supposed to be a fix on the way, but this has not happened.The ST has a delay. The GC2 can work standalone. ST is much cheaper (one third the price?)

I think you should look into Uneekor. It provides club data, and video of impact. I understand that it also can integrate additional cameras into the software. Perfect for game improvement. It is ceiling mounted, and requires marked balls. I would like to see more reviews and validation of club data, but for my personal needs, I would probably choose Uneekor over GC2 (prices are similar).

One thing to remember is that there is no further software development for the Gc2 planned, per my conversation with Foresight. YMMV, of course, but if various software changes and there are compatibility issues...

This is a “do I want a a ford or a Ferrari question”. You need to decide how much you want to spend and you get what you pay for. No one has ever sold their GC2 to get a skytrak. Both tell you what the ball did and the more expensive one does it better.

If your just using it in the winter for a range skytrak will do what you want and has a great practice facility.
If you want simulation gc2 no delay.

I had skytrak and now have gc2.

I had better luck with gc2 at the range outdoors than skytrak.

I bought fr1 dongle to test equipment etc... with range. Its not as good as skytrak. However if you go sim gc2 if you go outside gc2. I miss skytrak range but I don't miss $99 skytrak fee to use it.

If you need to break down your setup or move the unit around, I'd say SkyTrak is your only choice at the moment. GC2 provides more accurate data and doesn't have the ball speed issue. I also think something must be in the works at ST like a v2.0 hardware or something. If it were me I'd get everything I needed to hit balls for my indoor setup this offseason and see what happens between now and next year.

For sure there is something brewing. I think there is a 90% chance of a product announcement in January. It could be as simple as an updated ST, (reduced delay etc) or a new product (photometric+rader, club data etc). There is obviously huge secrecy around such things, so I don't expect peep from Seth, Jordan or anybody else associated with ST. Anytime new products come out, recent purchasers of older product are alienated to some degree. I would definitely wait until the PGA show if I was in the market for a launch monitor.
