  • YouTube video: how to see wind and elevation effects on a single shot

I just uploaded a video that demonstrates how to look at wind and elevation effects for a single shot, in this case a nice 7-iron from 165 that probably would have holed out. First is the original shot, then into a 10 mph wind, then with the same wind helping, then right-to-left wind, then left-to-right wind, then original shot with no wind, then with 6,500 ft elevation. And finally, the original shot again:

Give it a thumbs-up and subscribe to my channel if you like it!

That's really cool! I never thought of that...using the model.

This has nothing to do with the tutorial in the video (thanks!), but west wind looks horribly wrong if you ask me. A baby draw will move left in the "east" wind because it enhances the spin, and in the simulation it's left 15 yards with a huge kick. But when it blows the other direction it doesn't magically reverse the spin equally... it just holds it up and eventually pushes if it's strong enough. Yet the simulation has it right 14 yards, the same amount it was offline left???

I feel like that would never happen in 10mph and is obvious to anyone who has played in the wind. We've all had those dreaded straight shots in big wind when we line-up offline and fail to spin the ball the correct direction!

          Maybe I'm crazy 🤷‍♂️

I also noticed that the yards offline was similar (15 vs 14 yds) with the right wind and left wind. But thinking about it further, it makes sense to me: the shot started 2 deg right, and probably swung out to a max of 5-6 yards to the right before drawing back to the center with no wind. So the right wind (with draw spin helping it) moved the ball left a total of 20-21 yards, and the left wind (with draw spin fighting it) moved the ball right only 8-9 yards.
        Working...
