I am new to golf simulator. Just purchased SkyTrak two weeks ago with game improvement and play and improve plans. I have setup a 10’ x 10’ x 10’ practice cage in my backyard. I am using brand new Pro V1x for practice. I am not using a single ball for the practice. I have a dozen balls that I am using. The Carry distance shown by SkyTrak does mot match with what I get while I am playing a course. I hit my 7 iron about 150 metres. A couple of times SkyTrak has shown close to 140 metres but 99% of the time it shows from 110 to 125 meters. What I noticed today that some times it calculates a certain distance, shows it for a moment and then drops it back by a few meters. In this scenario, it calculated the total distance 139 meters and then dropped it to 130 meters. I have captured a video of it but not sure if uploading a video clip is allowed here. Any comments / feedback will be appreciated.

SkyTrak distance calculation issue

Well with 97 mph ball speed you're not quite getting 150 meters. I have 123-125 mph ball speed with 7 iron and I get 155-160 meters of carry. 150 meters with a seven iron would need 115-120 mph ball speed. Have you hit with trackman lately? You could compare what you get there to what your skytrak shows.

For your ball speed the 110-125 meters is fairly correct. A well struck 7 iron of standard loft will calculate to about 128 meters with a ball speed of 102 mph on a GC2. Aside from that launch angle and spin are also input parameters in the distance calculation.
If your measured parameters are correct you are probably experiencing what a lot of new launch monitor users experience i.e. their perceived distances IRL are optimistic.
Search through the threads and what you will find is a large majority of new users think the launch monitor under computes their distances. This is without regard to what brand of LM they are using. In reality what is off is the persons opinion of how far he/she actually carries the ball IRL

Regarding your distances being short, it’s a 99% chance it’s your swing and not the unit, and that you have Indoor Swing Syndrome (see https://gunghogolf.com/blog/indoor-s...ndrome-skytrak). Your dispersion circle in that session was very large, and would match up with your ball speed in the context of skill level.
Regarding that little switcharoo SkyTrak did in the video from 139 total to 130, that appears to be a real bug, and I’ve never seen it reported before. Does it happen on every shot, or just when the shot count gets high during a session? Make sure you’re running the latest version of the app. If you are, send the video link to SkyTrak support. Paging SkyTrak_Seth please.
Finally, recommend you always put a practice green out there so you won’t get crazy long roll-out numbers with irons.- Ron at GunghoGolf.com - we specialize in TrackMan, FlightScope, Foresight, Uneekor, SkyTrak, Garmin, Bushnell, TGC, and E6 Connect. 512-861-4151 or email hello AT gunghogolf.com.

The problem in the video is almost certainly because you are replaying shot 65/92, and not a calculation problem with the shot itself. It does appear to be a genuine glitch with the replay though. It looks like it's replaying then switching to a different shot at the end (maybe the most recent one?).
But yes to reiterate everyone else, that ball speed doesn't translate to the distance you think it does.

Ah nice catch on the replay issue. And moving backwards almost 30 shots before clicking Replay isn’t a very common thing to do.Last edited by GungHoGolf; 01-02-2020, 01:55 AM.

Thank you everyone for replying to my post. All of the points made above are valid.
I have made some changes to my practice area today which has made a big difference to the numbers that SkyTrak was showing.
I practice in the afternoon when sun is setting behind me. That makes SkyTrak facing the sun and has some glaring light directly on the lenses. I bought a 6’ x 6’ plywood from a local hardware shop and painted it black. Now I have that black board behind me that is not only blocking the sun but also making the white ball more prominent with the black background. I also removed the SkyTrak from its protective enclosure because it was making the SkyTrak sit about an inch above the hitting mat.
I am a tall person and all of my irons are one inch longer. After making the above changes, my swing speed for 7 iron shows 78 to 83 mph (10 shots), ball speed 110 to 117 mph and carry distance 146 to 153 meters.
