The material of the case is the easy part. The hard part is making sure the cutouts are positioned eight and large enough to allow the lasers, flashes, and cameras to have a clear view of the ball, while still being small enough to protect the unit against direct hits. So the biggest risk of a 3rd-party case is a higher % of mis- and no-reads.

Keep in mind that this is not a random person in China that saw a picture of the original and produced a knock off of it. If I remember the thread from golfwrx correctly, the guy making them thought the case could be stronger and cheaper so he decided to laser out blanks and weld them up in batches. I totally understand buying direct from SkyTrak though. I just like to support the little guy andSave a few bucks when it makes sense to do so.

To be honest, SkyTrak doesn't even sit square in the OFFICIAL FMJ. People post all the time (myself included) about alignment issues with HLA because they align for the FMJ to be parallel.. which causes the SkyTrak unit itself to be crooked.
I don't know anything about this knockoff product but if I knew what I knew now I'd take the gamble and try it out.

Interesting. I am mainly interested in this for alignment / transportation of the ST. A few questions for those who have this:- The case stands on the 3 adjustable screws correct? How stable is the case?
- What is the height from the ground to the bottom of the ST (i.e., the top "flat" part of the base)
- I see there is a little lip in the front of the base - does this make it difficult to align w/ the top of your mat?
- The listing says there is a screw in the base that screws into the bottom of the ST. Can you confirm this and how well that works - i.e., how stable is the ST?

Screw provided works well to secure the unit. The 3 adjustment screws are stable. The lip at the front does make height alignment more difficult to a mat but you can put an alignment rod at the lip which is nice.Originally posted by caldiver View PostInteresting.
