  • Skytrak Misreads-- any new tips?

Is 5-10 misreads per 18 hole round the best I can expect with Skytrak? I've had it about a year. Carefully reviewed the stick post from 2016 when I first got it and tried all the tips and tricks I could find. Wondering if anyone is not getting any misreads or if I'm getting the best I can expect. (Any new tips since the 2016 stick post that are working for people?). (I also recently tried putting a small led light on the ball with no improvement).

Probably a bit high. Most people get at least a few. But where are you getting them? For all clubs for all players? Or just some players or some clubs?
    • Light: don't bother unless it helps you see better. The ST works fine in the dark. A light won't help, and if excessive can make it worse.
    • List of potential culprits: Reflective objects in background. Reflective shoes. Reflective club heads or shafts. Tees that fly off and are picked up as ball. Worn out ball. Coloured ball. Ball without logo facing ST. Too lofted a trajectory. Too low a trajectory. ST not level. ST too low. ST on same mat as ball. Direct light from spotlight or sun. Network.

Misreads or no reads? Or both?

For me it is always wonky spin numbers. Generally too low so distance way off. I find that a new ball marked in severa dimples with a black sharpie around the logo area gets proper spin reads and corresponding proper everything for me almost all the time

Are you hitting into an impact screen or a net? If it's an impact screen, you may want to avoid the sharpie, it will mark up your screen. The best option is to align the putting sidestamp towards the unit.

I have a large TV behind the net so sharpie is not an issue but thanks

Can you post a picture of your setup?

Thanks for the replies. Sorry- I meant no reads not misreads. Happens to all golfers all shots. Definitely worse on high flip shots but I’m not even counting that. Not aware of any reflective items causing the problem. Network- internet hardwired 80 mbps.
some asked for my set up. Here’s some pics.

Worth a try to remove the clubs that are behind you. The shiny shafts may interfere with the the ST cameras.

If you haven't, I'd test it outside the case.

Try moving that mat with the white lines down it. You might be picking up IR interference from it...

I have a group of three that plays every Saturday morning. One player experiences most of the non reads and misreads in our group, His shoes are more shiny than ours, and I think that causes the problem. He is stubborn and doesn’t change. Your shoes also look very shiny!
the only other time I experienced misreads (every shot) is when I placed a small piece of painters tape at the end of my mat for putting alignment. Anything reflective causes significant problems.

overall I love my Skytrak. I find it to be very accurate once you get used to swinging indoors.

Double check how far your skytrak is from the ball - it's difficult to tell from the pictures but it looks a little too far away.

He has a picture that shows the laser so I'd think he's ok.

If the ST is tilted away from the ball due to not sitting well in the case, the laser will put the ball too far away. Basically, if the laser is more than 12 inches from edge of ST, we have a problem. A quick check with the ruler would settle the issue.

The first thing I would do is what Morini suggested and remove it from the case. After that I would be putting tape on the toe side of your clubs. I would also try the 1.5 inches behind the dot for driver and 1.5 in front (towards screen) for wedges rule.
My unit almost never misses shots. I have guys over that almost never miss shots but I have had the experience where they could not register a shot with one club. It was a fairway wood and we tried everything with no results. We eventually taped the toe area of the club and it picked up shots every time. It was a black shiny club so it was reflecting to the ST. One of the other guys had similar issue with a long iron. We did not tape it but we did move the ball back and found it would register. I would read through what everyone has said here and make a check list to eliminate all possible issues.

Google "non reflective black tape" and you should find a host of options. It's used in theaters for running repairs (...and by golf sim guys for taping all sorts of cr*p

I actually used painters tape (green) so that it mixed in well with the turf environment. Worked very well
