  • Skytrak update

I tried searching and didn't see anything, but I'm sure it's been discussed.

Is there ever going to be an update to Skytrak? Version 3.4 was announced a year ago I haven't seen anything yet.

    No one knows, literally.

Surely it would be 4.0, no?

I am fairly certain that Skytrak/Rhapsodo will have to reveal their cards at the show. This wall of silence is slightly worrisome and it will likely hurt the brand if it continues. I believe most people do their due diligence, and many prospective buyers will find their way to this forum. ST buyers are attracted to the value of the product, and as such likely to do some research before making the plunge.

My money is on new hardware. Evolutionary or revolutionary? Not sure. The four areas that need to be addressed are:
        • delay
        • HLA error
        • high ball speed issues
        • chipping & putting accuracy
There is also room for some minor accuracy improvements, but not much. Also, on board processing with display of ball data, carry, offline etc would be nice. Another wish list item is automatic target line alignment of some sort.

Once these issues are taken care of, there really isn't much more that can be improved upon, so perhaps lowering prices to grow the sim market is next?

That’s what we as consumers would want (Cheap awesome products) but business models hold true. Skytrak isn’t going to limit their margins. If it costs hundreds for them, it’s going to cost thousands for us. Things that can be fixed with a software update are good, but I wouldn’t hold your breath knowing it’s been over a year now.

If Skytrak does what you’ve outlined, you can guarantee a price increase of at least 1k, more likely higher.

So it would be ST at price point X and STv2 at price point Y. Logically, competing with GC2 used or refurb market.

I think what calebm1001 is saying here is dead on...

Does the current ST have a cheaper competitor with the same or similar features? No? Price stays the same, no updates, and maximize returns vs investment. Once a competitor hits the market, reassess.

What's the next step up? GC2 used/refurb, then new. STv2 will get as close to those features and stats as possible and be less than new, and more than used. I think the +$1K estimate is right on. If they have a new hardware set, it will be as we've described and come in at $3K or thereabouts.

          That's my bet anyway!

Yes, ST will price for maximum profit. In the absence of a direct competitor, price won't change. I do believe that ST has a huge advantage over GC2 when it comes to hardware costs. If ST could for a reasonable cost match GC2 in terms of features and performance, they would clean up.

GC2 is coming on 8 years old, with absolutely no price cuts (that I am aware of). Even after ST arrived 5 years ago. Unbelievable.

Eventually we going to see a $1000 price point on a system equal to, or better, than the ST. The only question is, how soon?

Well, for the game improvement market, every dollar of price reduction will serve to increase market size. For me, the purchase decision required some thought, but was inevitable. It does exactly what I was looking for: A chance to hit balls indoors with accurate feedback. Bring the price to $1,000, and this will be attractive to a much larger market. If they don't lower the price, a competitor will eventually put an equivalent product out in the sub $1,000 range.

As for sim, it is a bit different. TGC is $800+. Projector, what, about the same. Computer? $1,000+. Enclosure and screen, another $800+. Hitting mat and stance mat? $600+. The launch monitor makes up 25% or less of total cost. A price reduction in launch monitor would barely be noticed.

If you look back at their update history, They had (8) in 2017 and (7) in 2018. Then nothing since. I was excited to see they were adding multiple users and changing some things. Not really sure why they let that information out if they were nowhere close to making it happen. Which is evident since it was announced almost a year ago to the day.

If the Mevo+ unit works well, I think it will really hurt Skytrak. The only benefit of it will be the space it can be used at.

Just 24 hours until skytrak reveals everything they’ve been working on for the last year!

And hopefully it won't be another year of them not delivering on what they said was coming!

PGA show starts and Skytrak will have a booth where they show off their product and plans for the next year.

Based on past history, they are going to totally screw existing customers with a ridiculous charge.

I'm at the show. I'll try to report back if I can (I think a few guys are here?).

So, I've gone to the place where skygolf is supposed to be. Still haven't found them yet. However Uneekor and Tru-golf were very viable in the same area. As soon as I find them, I'll report anything new.

note no range on the screens... E6 and TGC
[ssshhh if we don't show the range maybe nobody will ask us about 3.4, 4.0... or the last 12 months in general]

Found them in 1900. Their only news is Connect. I asked about future plans for software and hardware and they told me "2019 has been our best year" and I asked about the delay and I got "there are some things I just can't talk about but a lot of people like the delay". They have two very small bays set up (10-12' wide and maybe 14' deep). Interesting to me, the demo units are not in cases. Many of their other offerings as well (sky caddie, etc.)

What a joke... Who in their right mind would pay for their software package?
