Saw on a blog where someone put a golfball on a shaft and just swung that and it worked. So the 'ball speed' on the driving range is actually swing speed. I tried it and it worked! Difficult designing a club like that w/the normal feel weight though. I'm going to try simply taping a white piece of paper size of a golf ball on my driver head and see if it picks it up. I'll report back....

Club Head Speed

Will do - may be a few days before i get a chance. I took an old shaft and took off the driver head, drilled a hole halfway through a golf ball and epoxied it on the end. Weight was too light so I bought one of those snap on weights for the shaft they sell at golf stores for training. Moved it higher on the shaft until it felt normal. I used it for quite a while until I kept hitting the ball on the mat and it eventually sailed off.

The speed you swing a club without hitting a ball may have nothing to do with your actual swing speed when playing golf. Many people have observed this over the years.
If you want an reasonable estimate of your playing swing speed just hit balls with a driver until you hit one solid and divide the ball speed by 1.45 to 1.48 which is the smash factor range for a modern driver with a maximum USGA legal 0.83 coefficient of restitution.

What is the point of this post? I’m not a Skytrak end all be all guy, it has its limitations. I’m just pointing out that your post is clearly captain obvious. If skytrak takes 2 photos of what it believes is a ball this shouldn’t be shocking. I’m actually impressed it picks it up with the “ball” being in motion the entire time. Skytrak doesn’t care what you’re swinging as long as it looks like a golf ball and it can take 2 pictures. Please let us understand the point.

SkyTrak does a very good job of calculating club head speed, based on ball speed and spin. I’ve compared it to the Mevo+ and it’s right there.- Ron at GunghoGolf.com - we specialize in TrackMan, FlightScope, Foresight, Uneekor, SkyTrak, Garmin, Bushnell, TGC, and E6 Connect. 512-861-4151 or email hello AT gunghogolf.com.

That you might be able to sort of 'measure' club head speed in a way with this trick. How are you not getting this?Originally posted by JBIER04 View PostExactly, the Skytrak measures the ball not club head speed. When has Skytrak ever claimed to measure club head speed? It’s a calculated speed. Still don’t see the point of this post. What are you trying to prove?
