Just felt like I had to make my presence known as "that new guy who just comments on stuff" So Haaaaa!!! Perfect time to pull the trigger on a SkyTrak, mine got delivered a few days back and am finally getting everything setup.......kinda, still lots to do with the room though. Seth, I'm obviously a noob here but from what I gather, you are the man so I just wanna say, keep doing whatever it is you do and thanks for everything!!!

SkyTrak_Seth are you able to shed light into how things were fixed with the increase in ball flight? How do we know you didn’t just multiply the original ball speed by 103%?

I don’t believe for a second that they just boosted the numbers. I just want to know the technical solution and why this was an issue to begin with. I’m fascinated by the tech.
-
Haha. No generic boost at all. The hardware team was able to accomplish this without having to do a firmware update by tweaking the image analysis algorithms that are part of the SDK. It was a ton of work collecting images and ball data with a robot. A very legit fix.

SkyTrak_Seth Saw someone else mention the app wouldn't work without internet, and you said it should. I can confirm I was unable to use v3.4.1 SkyTrak at the range yesterday before I found a buddy with a working personal hotspot on his phone. Wouldn't let me do anything until I had internet and logged in. Hopefully can be fixed quickly, or you can let me know what I was doing wrong. Was using USB mode for connection (same as I do in the studio).Last edited by GungHoGolf; 03-04-2020, 10:06 PM.- Ron at GunghoGolf.com - we specialize in TrackMan, FlightScope, Foresight, Uneekor, SkyTrak, Garmin, Bushnell, TGC, and E6 Connect. 512-861-4151 or email hello AT gunghogolf.com.

Glad the update happened! This has probably been covered in the one of the 100 posts, but I will ask again since I cannot find it. I do not see an update available in the app store on my iPad. Is that coming soon as well?

Anyone else having an increase in No Reads in TGC2019 post ST Update? I played last night and wow, it was bad. Putting especially. Which was super frustrating seeing as I just finally got that to work way better after following Coz's advice on where to put the ball. (4-8" behind the dot) I had to go back to 2" from the dot in-line with the laser from the box to get it to work most times.
Not that all the no reads on my regular shots wasn't just as frustrating. I just changed over to those Maxfli Tour balls in Matte and it was working great. Last time I had this many miss and no reads was a bad day with the Soccer Balls. (I say bad day because some days they worked great. No idea.)
So, am I the only one?

There's nothing with this release that could affect TGC. They are a stand-alone app that uses our (old) SDK. So that means that you will not see the ball speed improvements in TGC until they update the SDK, but you will also not see any adverse affects from this release.
-
I would think so as well, knowing what you've stated here that you've mentioned previously. But that's exactly what I was kind of questioning. Being that they don't have the updated SDK yet, is it effecting other uses the way my play was effected last night? Is there an unintended disconnect?
Another thing I have yet to confirm (forgot to do this last night) is go back into Device Manager and check to see if Power Management is still set to "Don't turn off power to USB" post update. That's the way I connect mostly and it was an issue before.
All part of testing!

Hmmm... I had a few no reads on some full 60* and flop shots but i felt it was likely my placement rather than the unit. No issues with putting other than I suck at it.

Hey all, thanks for all the valuable feedback. We did find a bug with offline mode that needs to be addressed before we go fully live. I will post the updated builds later today and we can release whenever that is approved again by Apple. For now, you can continue to test, just make sure that you launch the app with internet. Then you can proceed to use direct mode if you like.

Seth,
First of all, I love my SkyTrak. Really fills in the months here in the Midwest where we have snow on the ground.
Garage Golf posted a new video today showing the upgrade. Along with that he talked about adding a light to his setup and said it really helped with the no reads.(I still have my share of misreads) I've read a lot of post over the last years on this. But still confused? Based on the technology it almost doesn't make sense unless he had a bunch of shadows previous to the light. Any chance your team could give us a good overview on the best lighting setup? Thanks so much.
Pat.

In my experience, I think having even light is more important than the brightness. The LED's that illuminate the ball are infrared, so really you can hit balls in the dark. But you do want to avoid bright lights shining directly into the cameras. The easiest way to think of it is to get the lighting suitable for how would take a photo of someone standing there, which is essentially what we are doing.

SkyTrak_Seth I also ran a pre-post test and attached the results for you. Looks like about a 3-4 mph BS increase. I'd say the driver carry feels more comparable to RL now.
Cheers,

Hey Cap, what altitude do you have SkyTrak set for? You don't have any tailwind set in session settings, do you?Originally posted by Captain Z View PostSkyTrak_Seth I also ran a pre-post test and attached the results for you. Cheers,
The first shot in your Post results (158mph, 9.5 deg launch, 3748 backspin) only carries 247 yards at my Austin altitude of 870 ft according to FlightScope's Trajectory Optimizer, instead of the 272 you're showing. In Denver (5280 elevation) it would carry only 261. Check them yourself at https://flightscope.com/products/trajectory-optimizer/
Regardless, nice numbers there. Get your spin down to the mid 2,000s and your launch up 2-3 deg and you'll add 20-30 yards of easy distance.- Ron at GunghoGolf.com - we specialize in TrackMan, FlightScope, Foresight, Uneekor, SkyTrak, Garmin, Bushnell, TGC, and E6 Connect. 512-861-4151 or email hello AT gunghogolf.com.

Hey GungHoGolf - first of all thanks very much for the video on installing the new update I followed it start to finish!
No tailwind and altitude is set to my home location in Edmonton of 2,200. Couldn't tell you what the discrepancy would be it's straight from the Skytrak software shot history report?
I've never been one to analyze spin and launch angle etc but that's good advice I'll look into ways of getting spin down and launch up......who wouldn't take an extra 20 or 30 yards lol.
If I had to guess my higher driver backspin is likely related to a steep-ish angle of attack which I've always battledLast edited by Captain Z; 03-05-2020, 11:50 PM.

Ha! That optimizer is neat! I live at 7000 ft ASL, and my home course is 5 minutes away. (one of the longest courses in the world) Perhaps I should be playing from farther back! Hahahaha. Nah!!!
-
Captain Z - very interesting that your altitude is set for 2,200. SkyTrak is returning VERY optimistic carry numbers in your post result. The first shot I mentioned should have carried 252, not 272... that's 8% longer than the FlightScope algo, which is widely considered to be a gold standard in the industry. I spot checked your 6th shot also, since it didn't have much sidespin, and FS says 249 carry to ST's 267, a difference of 7.2%.
I doubt if anyone is going to complain that they're really cranking them out there on ST, but I'm a little concerned that something may be overcooked. ST has traditionally been very close to FS Optimizer numbers. Please double-check that your altitude is set to 2,200 and that temp and humidity are set for reasonable values.
Oh, to get your LA up and spin down: get a driver with less loft (or adjust yours down), tee it up higher, move the ball forward in your stance (off middle of left toes), and hit it with more of an ascending blow, ideally with some draw spin. If that doesn't work go test a bunch of heads and shafts until you find a combo that gives you spin around 2,200-2,400 and launch around 13-15.
