Newbie with newbie questions

Hi all, I am about to order a skytrak just with the basic range. I am a range rat and may later add more elaborate sims, but for now, I think basic range is all I need at least to start. I have a surface pro with i5-63000 CPU, 2.50Ghz and 8 gb RAM. Will this run without a long delay? I know it's not strong for more demanding sims... is it ok for the basic range? Also, where I will set this is is pretty far from my router, but I *think* I can run a cable from the skytrak to the surface... correct?
