  • New User Question

    Hello,

I have had a Skytrak for 3 days and I have a few questions.

First concerning the guarantee, the guarantee is 12 months, I live in Europe (France) and the law says that the products sold in Europe are guaranteed 2 years, why the Skytrak is guaranteed 1 year?

Apple had to apply European law and now guarantee its products for 2 years.
    https://europa.eu/youreurope/busines...s/index_en.htm

Then I wanted to know if it was possible to delete a practice session directly on the iPad? And delete only one shot on a session?

I connected to Skygolf360 and I was able to delete sessions and shots but they are not deleted from my Ipad.
On Skygolf360 my distances are in yards, I would like to put them in meters, I changed the options but it's still in yards, a solution?
the Skygolf site is a disaster, it is slow, complicated to delete a shot etc ... you too?

I read that you should not look at the club speed because it is a calculation, the data is really wrong?
Regarding the ball data can I trust the Skytrak? I had problems at first but I settled my installaton and the data seem to me consistent

last question, I would like to take my Skytrak to the driving range but the balls are yellow and of poor quality, no need to try?

    sorry for my English

Welcome to Skytrak - good to have you along!

One thing that I can answer immediately - ST does not measure club speed. It only measures properties of the ball motion. It then uses a "best fit" formula to estimate club speed (it's easy to back out how this is done - it's a linear regression). For most "normal" (i.e. reasonably pure and full) shots this will be pretty accurate, but for some shots it will be totally wrong. I look at it for most shots, but I'm ready to disbelieve it if the shot was not a standard one.

For example: I'm 62 and a full pitching wedge for me goes 115 yds. I know from Trackman that the predicted ST club speed is pretty much right
However if I want to do a 55 yd pitch shot (for me a PW with club at 9 o'clock) then the predicted ST club speed is totally wrong (for one thing the smash factor is less than 1)

thank you for your reply. Indeed, I could see the inconsistencies in the club speed data. Regarding the data of the ball they are rather good.

if anyone has an explanation for the 1 year warranty in Europe when it should be 2 years...

Welcome aboard. I cannot answer the question regarding the warranty, but would recommend asking the retailer where you bought it. Regarding the yellow balls at the range, it should be fine. Give it a try.

          • Ball speed is very accurate. Probably less 1 mph error on average.
          • Club head speed makes some assumptions. If you give the correct club, have a reasonably normal swing, and hit center face it is quite accurate.
          • You likely will not get accurate readings at driving range due to the reasons you give. It is possible shot shape will be representative. If you want to verify outside it needs to be a windless day, need to hit off mat, shade the ST, use premium balls. I would also use a spotter to laser back.
          • I never use Skygolf. You can easily delete in the app. At the end of a session, you can export to csv and open in spreadsheet. That way you can do whatever you want with the data if you have some spreadsheet skills. There might be a better way, but it works for me and only takes 30 seconds to do.

            Thank you for your answers.
I think it will be difficult to take it to the driving range because you have to be careful with the balls, the sun, the level etc ... 😅

I took mine to a TopTracer range once (there are many in the UK now). The bays there are shaded and level and the mats are good. It compared very well with the distances and heights etc. predicted by ST. I agree with Morini though - what I always do is export the csv file and analyze it. Originally ST only exported a PDF data file and I had a little app that turned this into a .doc file and then into a .xls for analysis, but it's really much easier now that you can export .csv as well.

I would give it a try, you never know. I had always heard about issues with direct sunlight but ever since I got my skytrak, I never really knew what that meant. I am on a rooftop balcony and am a lefty so the sun rises at my back in the morning. I could hit with no issues early on when my balcony put the ball and the ST in the shade, however, as the sun rose, I started to have misread issues. As such, I assumed that it wouldn't work well in direct sunlight so I discontinued use in the day and really focused on dusk onwards. Recently, I played in the morning where the sun angle was 150-180 degrees to the ST (i.e.,just right about direct to target and, surprisingly, I had very few misreads and the data was quite accurate.

My point being, although most people suggest that there is a direct sunlight issue, it is not universal and it may not be true for everyone.

Your situations are a bit different. It sounds as if the balcony is your permanent environment, so you know the angles of the sun, can without too much trouble create shade. Taking it to the range is a different matter. Now what is the point of taking it too the range? I can see two. Verifying the accuracy. The second to use it to gather data while at the range. This last one is probably not worthwhile for a number of reasons.
