Im fairly new to skytrak. I took it to the range yesterday for the first time. My carry distances and ballflight was almost perfect. But at the range you cant really judge bounce and roll distance. Ive heard people say to ignore the total as the rollout isnt accurate. But all else being equal how accurate is spin and distance after carry? Assuming set up is proper using a good new ball.
Is rollout at all accurate

No, roll out is not accurate. Focus on carry. ST roll out is not based on real physics. And even if it was, actual roll out is based on hole specific course geography and general as well as day specific course conditions.
On that note, I really wish that ST range would offer the option to play the target games based on carry only.
On an unrelated note, I have been playing around with making a ton of games. I wish I had access to SDK, but I have a workaround. Blackjack anyone? Darts? Battleship? Big Break Glass Challenge? Bocci?

It isn't skytrak-specific either. Rollout on any launch monitor is a guess at best. Just too many variables at play. Especially on a driving range because the skytrak has no idea what the terrain of your range is like.
One thing you should pay attention to if you're wondering about rollout is the angle of descent, which is displayed near the upper right corner. That will give you a general idea if a particular shot would've had some rollout or not. Ideally, a driver should be under 40 degrees.Last edited by 3on3putt; 04-24-2020, 12:38 PM.

Think of rollout on a real course. With my driver, my rollout for the same shot can be anything from 0 to 70+ yards just depending on the ground conditions. No rollout model can deal with that. People have thought about this in detail though - for an example (there are others) see

Yes landing angle and spin are what determines stopping distance. I was looking at LPGA spin and 7 iron spin and landing angle were 6700 rpm and 47 degrees. For pros, roll out is generally very little for both men and women. It goes negative for some clubs as we all know.
The landing angle is quite similar for irons and wedges and only goes up by 4 degrees from 4 iron to PW.
You also have to remember that hitting from mat lowers spin, and increases launch and landing angle.
