  • Choppy Tracer Drawing and Misreads

I have had the Skytrak for close to a month, hit hundreds of shots with no issue. However, I have run into some issues tonight . I am going to open a ticket with them tomorrow but i figured i would bounce this off you guys as well in case any one has run into it.

-at the start, I hit about 30 7i on the ST Practice range, no problems
-then noticed a couple reads were more delayed than usual and one had a really choppy tracer drawing
-so i restarted restarted the computer and skytrak
    -first shot, read fine
    -second shot, no read
-3rd shot, no read and red dot disappeared for 30 seconds (red, green, green on the LEDs the entire time)
-when the red dot came back this time it was in right handed mode for a brief few seconds before switching back to my default left handed

-then i had 10 or 15 good reads
-then another really choppy tracer. Ball flight showed a cut 7i that apparently carried 200 and rolled out to 221 (wish i could hit a cut 7i that far)
-next shot no read, red dot off again for over 5 minutes this time (red, green, green on the LEDs)

    other notes:

    -battery at 50%
-0 degrees tilt and 0 degrees role
-running in wifi mode (router within 20 feet of both devices with no walls/obstructions, running a separate 2.4G SSID for only these devices)
    -PC is Alienware Aurora R9 with Intel Core 9th Generation i5-9400 Processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 6GB GDDR5, 8GB (1x8GB) 2666MHz DDR4 HyperX FURY XMP, Dell Wireless 1820 Card (802.11AC Dual-Band Wi-Fi + Bluetooth)
    -not running any other applications

Any ideas what might be causing the issue?

It might not be this, but I had a similar thing once, after a bit of head scratching it was windows doing its updates in the background. I paused the updates and it worked fine.

Agree with above - sounds like your computer is busy doing something else. Pull up the Windows Task Manager next time you see it, and see what is taking up cpu or gpu cycles.

Thanks guys! When i spoke to ST support today they seemed to think it was wifi related. They told me to try running in direct mode and see if i still run into the issue.

I'll try out their suggestions and yours and report back if i am able to isolate the issue.

I agree with the others...it sounds like your computer is doing something else in the background. Another option (which doesn't sound like it's the case) is that the app could be trying to sync a lot of unsynced shots in the background. It really shouldn't affect performance, but just to be safe I'd open the app and let it sit for a few minutes on the dashboard to make sure it has time to sync everything before hitting shots (and kill any background processes).

Thanks Seth! I ended up turning off automatic windows updates and shutting off all the local security functions on the PC (dont worry, i have solid network based protections setup) and closing any other applications that were unnecessarily running in the background. The issue did not present itself again last night but i will continue to track CPU and memory utilization while i am practicing.
