  • Light curtain failing

My Skytrak is just a little over a year old and will not read at all . After reading a lot on this forum I switched to left handed and it reads every shot so I am assuming it is the light curtain. Will Skytrak do anything to help me?? How much does this cost? Can someone explain to me how to swap the left and right hand curtains?

I just found a thread that has pictures on this forum that I must have missed before....Skytrak really needs to let us purchase these parts if they are known problem...There is no way we should have to pay 300-400 every year to have the light curtain replaced.

I would contact support and explain the situation, probably best to get it in to have it looked at. It does sound like the light curtain to me but certainly isn't a yearly replacement.

I had a similar issue with my unit on the LH side (I'm LH). I sent it in for diagnostic/repair and it was $30 for shipping from the Detroit, MI area. Once they looked at it, they were able to confirm it was the laser curtain/trigger and it needed replacement. The cost was $99 and included return shipping. The time from hen I dropped it off at UPS to when I received it back was approximately one month. I hope that helps. This is the first issue I've had in two years of owning it btw.

Have you been playing much outdoors yet? Once Whitmer lifted the first ban on golf, I got in 5 round in the first seven days. Tapered off a bit due to the weather lately though. My kid will play in anything though, he's probably got about 10-12 rounds already and going out again today.

That is a much much lower estimate than I have seen elsewhere. I wonder if they have lowered repair prices? A lot of these seem to fail, but it is really hard to know for sure. It could be a fraction of a percent or 5%. In any case, it seems that a bad batch of laser may be involved. I once again strongly suggest that as a measure of goodwill the cost of repairs be given as credit towards GIP. Only fair in my opinion. Nobody expects Skytraks to last forever, but to have a non-moving part fail just out of warranty is not good.

I've played two rounds so far. Working at home with two young kids (my wife is a nurse at a hospital so can't work remotely) has been less than ideal. Getting out on the course has been a nice recharge. I had to cancel my Arcadia trip this weekend but will squeeze in a local round to slightly compensate.

Wow, that's very reasonable. I love my Skytrak even more knowing that the company doesn't gouge people for repairs. BTW, you might try setting the ST to Left Hand mode to test if it's the RH curtain that is the problem. Place the ST forward of your left foot to hit right-handed.

Being in Canada, my experience with shipping for repairs isn't great. No idea about Skytrak, but I remember when I purchased Occidental Leather tool pouches (fantastic product btw, can't recommend enough) and one came with a stitching defect. The pouch was over $100 and by the time I paid return shipping, I could have just bought a brand new pouch locally, even with the free lifetime repair service.

Something to think about if you're not in CONUS.
