  • Skytrak USB Mode

My Skytrak shows up as charging whenever I plug it into my PC but once I start the unit and open up Skytrak program it doesn't connect in USB Mode. Any idea as to why this is? Thanks

Do you mean it won't connect in USB right away or it won't connect in USB at all? I always leave mine plugged in via USB. When I open the Skytrak app it connects via USB within 5-10 seconds.

Is there an error message it's giving you?

It just won't connect whatsoever, it charges it but when I turn the unit on my PC makes a noise to suggest that something has been unplugged. Maybe its the cable

I don't think the USB cable that comes with the Skytrak is necessarily top-of-the-line in terms of quality and I've read about people accidentally breaking the port or the cable itself. I would try buying a new cable and seeing if that does the trick. Just make sure you get the right size (2.0 or 3.0; I forget which one Skytrak uses).

I had this same problem. I use my Skytrak in USB mode all of the time. Not sure if you are as well, or were using Wifi (or Direct Wifi) before. But, I changed the USB cable out and it started working. Not sure what happened to the previous cable, because it will charge other devices (mouse & keyboard), but it just stopped working (it would charge just wouldn't pass data) for the Skytrak.

I think I will have to change the cable and see if that changes it. The cable charges the unit but once I turn the Skytrak on , my PC makes a noise to suggest that something has stopped working

What works for me is turning the Skytrak on first and then turn on the PC.

Yes.... now that you mention it, this always seems to be true for me as well. Skytrak on first, then computer and then open skytrak app. I don't know why it should make a difference but skytrak is finicky about stuff like that.

This has just worked for me lads, appreciate it alot, thank you. I was turning on PC, then Skytrak and then opening up program. Turns out its not a faulty USB cable after all! Cheers

An update on this : When I thought I got it working, it was actually in direct mode!

I am currently running Windows 7 as I was told by a techy guy that it runs smoother as there is less going on. Windows 7 does not auto install the driver that is required to recognise the Launch Monitor and allow USB mode. I found the solution on Skygolf and I will link it here incase anybody runs into this problem. Once I followed these steps it was a delight to see "USB Mode" when I opened up the Skytrak program.

Here is the link for future reference and I hope it can at least help one person

I'd disagree with your techy guy. Microsoft end-of-lifed (ended support for) Windows 7 on Jan 14, 2020 (it was released in 2009). It's really old tech compared to Windows 10, which is the spec for most modern software (including golf sim software). By continuing to use it, you run the risk of all sorts of weird glitches when using modern software, and open yourself up to security vulnerabilities.

So you think upgrade to Windows 10 or just a more recent one?

Windows 10 is the way to go, as long as your hardware is up to it. That said, if you're not having any issues with a computer or software, it's always a bit of a risk/hassle to upgrade an OS. Best advice, if you're running on old hardware, is get a new machine at some point with Windows 10 already on it.
