  • Skytrak iPad Issues

I am having issues connecting via Network mode on an iPad 7th gen. I am able to get it set up and the unit connects to my network but the app never does. I'm able to get it to work once but then it doesn't work again and I'm forced into a hard reset.

Was told my model of iPad would work prior to purchase but today on the phone with support was told it isn't an approved iPad. That got the blood boiling.

It does seem to work well on my Google pixel 3 and Samsung Galaxy Tab. So it does seem to possibly be the iPad.

Hoping someone will have insight, maybe SkyTrak_Seth can help.

Could try direct mode. Can't see why 7th gen wouldn't work.

Yeah I had a first generation ipad that worked just fine with it. Hard to imagine a 7th gen would be an issue. Is it a pro? Air?

It's a normal iPad. Not pro, mini, or air. The issue with using only direct mode is that I can't use WGT

True that, but it helps with trouble shooting. If it works direct, you know it is a router related connectivity issue, not ipad. I'd ignore the tech support comment. Probably a low level tech support person following a script.

The compatible iPads listed for WGT are:
        • iPad Air
        • iPad Air 2
        • iPad Mini 2 (with Retina Display)
        • iPad Mini 3
        • iPad Mini 4
        • iPad Pro
But for just the Skytrak range, I see no reason why a 7th gen wouldn't work.

I do know there is some sort of issue with the name of the WiFi network having something to do with it. I don't recall what it is but it's been discussed before. In fact, I think it's mentioned in the Skytrak user manual. Give that a look.

I did change the name of my Wifi network and that seems to have worked. As of right now, I am able to connect via network mode even after turning off the unit which I hadn't been able to do yet. Fingers crossed that was the issue. I absolutely love this thing when it's working! Built my own DIY Divot action which has been great. Looking at maybe adding a DIY truestrike also, see which one is better. Best golf investment I've ever made!

              Good to hear it's working.

Apple makes a lightning-to-USB adapter that will allow you to connect the iPad in USB mode (still have to use network mode for WGT but can use USB mode for Skytrak range). My network connection was always a bit spotty but when I started using USB mode it's been a night and day difference. Not only do I never lose connection but it connects in like 2 seconds upon startup. In network mode I was always having to wait forever for the connection to establish and it would sometimes take multiple attempts.

Another trick --- turn on the Skytrak first and then the iPad. Don't know why, but this always seems to make things more efficient.

I'm having similar issues. The software updated and I can't connect with an Iphone, Ipad or PC. I get the "you need to upgrade" message every time. I've gone through the process of adding the free practice range only subscription but it still says "invalid membership". I only want to use the free practice range. Very frustrating and for 2 weeks the support simply gives a connect in Network Mode to fix but it doesn't. Then they say use a PC - it doesn't fix it.

Really frustrating that I have a £2K piece of kit I can't use due to lack of knowledge in support.

You can roll back to older version on pc. I struggled logging in after update. Turns out I used < as the symbol log in name, and that caused problems.

                    Hey guys,

Camazing5 Unfortunately, we don't have a 7th gen iPad at the office to test, but looking at the specs, I don't see any reason as to why it wouldn't work. Network issues are most likely due to the iPad hopping around on networks in the background. You may have a dual band router that has both 5g and 2.4g - most people have them named the same. So you program your SkyTrak unit to the 2.4g network and then the iPad hops over to the 5g network without you even realizing it.

Hantsgooner , that sounds like a problem with your membership not attached to the device. You can do this on SkyGolf 360 or a support rep should be able to do this for you if you get stuck. Hopefully a very simple fix.

I've made it so my iPad doesn't know about my 5G network so it can't connect to it and still seem to have some issues. I've gotten in touch with support and they told me that there is something with the new iPad that makes it lose connection. Very frustrated as I bought the iPad specifically for the skytrak after support said it would work.

Other than that it works great in direct mode.

                        @skytrak_seth

So I'm thinking I'm just a bit out of range for my wifi. I'm only like 30 ft or so but in the garage through a wall. Will a range extender or anything work?

Yeah, especially in a garage with a lot of metal around I'd try to get the strongest signal possible. We had a local guy have to buy an extender for his garage and it works perfectly. I still don't think it's the iPad.
