Misread or real with 5 Iron

Did I get a misread here, or really just nail it? This is with my 5 iron

The shot felt amazing, sounded great, centre of the club .. just for me a perfect shot. I have been taking lessons over the past few weeks, and I am def seeing an increase in distance of around 10-15 yds. My other shots with the 5-iron, were going around 180ish

if that is the only one and you cannot replicate before or after, I would probably guess that it is a misread. If you can go back to your history and look at the other data, ball speed, carry, launch angle, spin, etc., you might have a better idea of what happened.

Does the carry number seem plausible? To me it does for a 5 iron.

What was the carry average for the other 5 irons? (I know you said they went around 180 but I'm guessing you meant total).

Balls do tend to travel further (both carry and roll) when pulled. And that shot was 32 yards left of the target line. It's not unreasonable at all. Plenty of people carry their 5 iron 186.

My other carries were about 164 and 165 yds, with a total of 180 yds

No one can tell if this is a misread or legit shot. But a 186 yard 5i isn't unheard of, it's actually short for many. What is your normal SS with your driver? But I'd be cautious of saying this was a perfect shot given it was 100 feet left of the target.

Roll out is subject to the conditions of the course. I really only care about carry numbers as most of the greens at my club are elevated and they are all carry. From the tee roll out can vary by dry/wet, hard/soft, fairway or rough.

I can guarantee you if you pull a 5 iron that far left it is probably going to hit rough and stop rather quickly. And like someone stated a pull goes much farther than a straight or cut shot as the club face is de-lofted.

That was my first thought but 22 degrees is extremely high for a de-lofted 5 iron. Spin is very low, probably just a flier. Balls that launch high can still carry quite a bit if low spin, as the ball does not rise as much mid trajectory.

Looks about right to me. As others said, the low spin is really whats causing it. Spin for a 5 iron should be about 4-5,000 rpm. Hooking to the left will lower the spin resulting in increased distance (but less stopping power on greens)

Below is my 7 iron. Similar launch angle, similar distance, but even though the ball speed was 9mph higher than yours, it carried a little less because it had over twice the amount of spin. On the upside, it would have stopped quicker on a green though.

Yes, 5000 seems about right for a skilled golfer off fairway. 5,400 rpm is what you would see fora Pga Tour club head speeds and spin loft off fairway. However, hitting off a mat will lower this by about 1,000 and raise the launch angle. For the shot in question, 3000 rpm would be about right, so it is missing 33% spin, flier.
