  • SkyTrak Connection to Windows 10 PC

I received my new SkyTrak device around a week ago and am still unable to connect it to my Windows gaming PC (Alienware Aurora R11) via direct or network mode. I can only connect it via usb mode which won't work because my sim room is in the basement below and around 30 ft away. I was able to connect to it in direct mode and network mode with my Windows 10 laptop and iPad and was able to set up my network and repeat the connection multiple times. When I try to connect my desktop, there are 2 solid red lights above the green and I'm able to connect to the SkyTrak_xxxxxxxxxx wifi network but the skytrak app just shows "Discovering, Looking for Connection" until eventually the unit shuts itself off automatically. I've uninstalled and reinstalled SkyTrak multiple times and deleted the local data file each time as well. It makes no sense that it can connect to a Windows 10 laptop and iPad on the same network but not my Windows 10 desktop.

I've contacted support 4 times and spent nearly 6 hours on the line with them while they try the same thing over and over and just refer me back and forth from online to phone, both saying they have to "escalate" it to the other support team. I've tried resetting it with a paper clip multiple times, walking it around the block and resetting it. I've set it up so that it's in network mode and the middle yellow light is on, then try to connect to my desktop while I'm on the same wifi and it will not connect to my desktop. Sometimes support says it's a firewall issue but I've turned off the firewall and still can't get it to connect.

I need it to connect to the desktop because it's the only device I have with a good enough graphics card to run TGC eventually. My computer specs are below if anyone can provide any sort of insight or anything else that I can try.

    Intel Core i7-10700 @2.9GHZ
    16GB RAM
    GeForce RTX 2060 GPU

I don't know how to help you with the direct connection, but on the network connection, they might be using Multicast (Its a networking thing) to do communications between the Skytrak and your computer. Sometimes a local router is setup to not support Multicast. You might want to check that on your router. If Multicast is not enabled then see if you can enable it and try that.

Some folks have reported VPN software and McAffee interfering. It may be some software in the alienware laptop interefering with it.

I had this exact same issue recently and battled for 3 weeks to resolve it. You can see all the details under this topic post "SkyTrak is Discovering and I've tried everything"

My Issue was exactly the same as you described. As part of my trouble shooting I disabled all my third party virus software (in my case it was McAfee). I toggled all the settings to off so that the virus software and firewall would essentially not do anything but that didn't resolve getting past the "Discovering" stage for the Direct Mode connection.

Then I uninstalled my McAfee software entirely. After doing that my SkyTrak connected in Direct Mode first time and I could then establish the Network Mode connection.

Essentially something in McAfee was preventing the Skytrak connection and the uninstall resolved that. Also if you have any VPN software you may want to uninstall as a test too. I am now running on Windows 10 standard Windows Defender anti-virus and firewall and it seems to be doing the job in terms of protecting the PC so I will just stick with that.

(As an aside I have seen PC's with McAfee running a SkyTrak, so it is not an across the board issue with McAfee by an means, it was just that in my set-up something was creating an issue and preventing SkyTrak connecting).

Yup, mostly likely something interfering. When I installed NordVPN I did say yes to some type of security add-on, and I am fairly sure that was the problem. Some registry setting somewhere, as shutting Nord completely down did not work. I never would have figured it out if I didn't have skytrak working minutes before I installed NordVPN. Then it stopped working, so clearly Nord. Then I closed Nord down, still didn't work. Then I stopped every process that looked like it was connected to Nord, still didn't work. What is left to do? Uninstall. Bingo. If I had had NordVPN installed before I bought my Skytrak I would have NEVER figured this out.

Thank you all for your help on this! A couple hours after I posted this, it randomly started working and about a week went by with everything working fine until all of a sudden the problem came back. I took all of your advice and uninstalled McAffee and now it works again. Thank you!

Thanks everyone for chiming in and helping on this one - such a great example of how awesome this community is! Yeah, it seems that recent antivirus updates are really messing with network communications within applications <sigh>

I know this is somewhat old, but I just got my unit a month ago, and was working just fine.
As soon as I installed OpenVPN(most people install a VPN software on a laptop) SkyTrak software doesn't connect anymore.
This should be looked into by the SkyTrak team because allot of people install on a laptop and as mentioned already, most people have VPN software on their laptop.
Hopefully an update come out to fix this.

Edit: While the SkyTrak software was Discovering I uninstalled OpenVPN, as soon as it was finished, the software connected to the unit.
This should be a simple software or firmware update.

Same for me with NordVPN. Closing it and all the related processes was not enough. I had to uninstall. Unfortunately, I don't think Skytrak wifi plays nice with such things. Ideally the team should look into it, but don't hold your breath. This is a niche market, and I am guessing the development team is extremely small, and simply doesn't have the time delve into such things. Having said that I would really like to run Nord on my pc, and if anyone, dev team or community has a solution I am all ears.

My issue was twofold. mcafee AND special character in my network password.

I have a similar problem in that I can't seem to get network mode to work for the most part. What happens is that it initially connects during set up to the network. When I try to reconnect, the light on the Skytrak turns yellow (meaning it has connected to WiFi) and yet the Skytrak software won't discover the unit when I try to connect. The only way to connect is via USB, which doesn't seem as consistent. It will connect to the app on my iPhone in network mode but that doesn't allow me to use my TGC 2019 (or the Skytrak basic tools) in network mode. .

I'm wondering if the problem is something I'm doing in Windows 10 on my gaming desktop that blocks the Skytrak and/or TGC 2019 Skytrak interface from seeing the device on the network, which isn't present on the iPhone. I have my network set up as a private network with devices discoverable. TGC 2019 is allowed through Windows Defender. I use Webroot rather than McAfee or Norton so maybe the problem is there. Any ideas here would be much appreciated.

Adding to this old thread as I found another way/reason a Windows PC device can not connect to Skytrak. I had also thought it was MacAfee but uninstalling that did not help. Nor did killing the Windows firewall and I had no VPN software running. The issue ended up being the SkyTrak software install itself. I had watched a video on how to install it and one of the instructions was, if you get a window pop up regarding installing Visual C++ Runtime, you can cancel that. I did cancel that. Well, don't cancel that. It apparently is needed at least on Windows 10. Once ran the installation and allowed the Visual C++ Runtime module to be installed, I was able to connect right away.
