SkyTrak on Mat or Floor for best reads?

Hey Everyone,

I've gone back about 15 pages to see if this was addressed but couldn't find anything. Is it better to setup the SkyTrak on the mat or on the floor (adjusting the height with the case to be level with the mat) or does it not matter? I'm getting some short yardages with my 8 and 9 iron (about 30 yards shorter) but it seems accurate with the other clubs. Or maybe I'm just not hitting them as well as the others. I've had the SkyTrak for a couple weeks now and I can't seem to get accurate reads with those two clubs. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

Off the mat if you can do it

I think I've read that not having it on the same mat is the preference. Make sure the bottom of the Skytrack unit itself (not the bottom of the case) is level with your hitting surface.

I built a small platform to sit off to the side of my fiberbuilt mat/platform. This allows me to slide the skytrak to different spots each session to even out the wear on the fiberbuilt and the movement of the mat doesn't impact the Skytrak readings.

Nice! I was trying to figure out how to incorporate a stance mat to fiberbuilt. This was the way to go. I just have it up against it

Yes, the vibration from impact may move the skytrak slightly. If it moves between images, clearly it will mess up ball data, so hit off mat if at all possible.

With regards to being short for only two clubs ... very likely setup, not unit. Most likely clubface-mat interaction. Hit off a short tee to see what difference it makes.

I believe you may have referencing my post about ST placement. In reading this and in my post I don't think there was a definitive answer! I set my ST next to the mat, adjust the legs up until the base is the same height as mat. I agree with placing ST on mat, hitting it seems to move and possibly alignment goes out, I even notice my hitting mat shifts slightly during a round as when I first start the round the ST is tight to the edge of the mat, and I notice by the end its slightly maybe a 1/4" sometimes more away from the edge of the mat.

I have played with it directly on the mat and have seen no real difference from being on the mat or next to the mat. IMO

As stated above, the vibration of the mat may cause skewed data. If your mat is stable you can place the unit on the mat. Also, if you are using the SkyTrak unit off the mat make sure the unit is the same level as the hitting surface. If the SkyTrak unit is higher than the hitting surface, it could lead to misreads.
