What Balls to Use?

I have a ragtag group of balls I use in my garage. Occasionally I will throw in a brand new sleeve of Pro Vs or TP5s and will instantly see a huge increase in ball speed/distance. I love hitting these balls as it’s more accurate then the balls I’ve hit a thousand times that are “dead”. But it’s too expensive to use a new sleeve every couple days...I hit lots of balls and as you know these premiere balls are very fragile.

is there a more sturdy ball that will give me somewhat similar ball flight, that isn’t crazy expensive?

Srixon Z star these go on sale every now and then for great prices. Just saw them last week at Golftown for Cdn$35 a dozen.

min same line as Snell ball is the Vice Pro line up.

If you are in Europe, then Inesis is a great option based on reviews.

I totally agree. I just ordered some a few weeks ago to replace the 2 dozen I was using but they were getting to the point I did not want to hit them into the screen anymore so I gave them to my middle son as he can lose a ball when putting.. HAHA.. I just put these new ones into the simulator the other week and will not be buying anymore and have already gave them all to same middle son. Spin is way to high, Driver ball speed is down and the cover is getting ripped apart after a few hits. Sucks as the first batch I had lasted a long time and I never hit the same ball two times in a row.

It's not ball speed, its the wedges that scuff the balls. Once scuffed, bad news. Abrasive things that fly into your screen while making 20 revolutions per second.

The cover shreds enough that pieces of the urethane will be stuck in the grooves of your irons.... so yeah ripped apart by their previous version standards..

That said.. the Srixon Q star tour and Z star are holding up very nicely so far.

I don’t know about ripping apart but it’s hard to even get through a couple rounds with this ball now. The cover just shreds/scuffs so bad now. The old version was much much more durable. It would last a very long time.

I use snell and prov1 practice balls (from the pga superstore at about half price of real provs). Guests seems to prefer the provs, probably due to name recognition. I find the snells are longer, so those are my preference.

The prov1s look new until the cover breaks, which at my swing speed takes almost a year (I probably use about 100 balls at a time, play at least 4 hour a week, and will sometimes grab 6 balls from the simulator to play for real, and replace sim balls with new). The snells lose the luster off their cover pretty quickly, but performance seems fine for about the same amount of time as the provs. I know to replace balls when I see a distance loss. I hit my 6i about 170 carry. I'll hit it about 140 or so carry, and assume it was a mishit. After another 140 or so carry, I'll pick up the ball and look for a hairline crack in the cover. Sometimes it will be obvious, other times, I can't find it, but after another 10 swings or so the cover will bust. So I don't see a noticeable performance loss until right before structural failure. I can't say for certain there is no performance loss, but it's not enough for me to notice until just about the end of the ball.

I like the Vice Pro / Pro +. They are also about the same price as Snell / Costco balls but I think they have a softer feel than the other low-cost balls. More like the TP5 I was playing before. I have also noticed that the Skytrak doesn't read the ball as well after you knock the shine off.

At one point my local walmart was selling Srixon Z-Stars for $20 per dozen. Not sure how often they do sales like that, but I'd keep an eye out. The Z-Stars perform exactly like Pro Vs

I buy used TP5 TP5X at used golfballs.ca None have scuffs, some have sharpie marks, but probably half don't. Half are for play on the real course, the other half for the sim. 100 balls= $120 free delivery. Can't go wrong. They have Mint, Grade A, Grade B, and Grade C. I buy Grade B and have been very happy.

Even if you buy premium balls (ideally on sale or practice version), it comes out to a penny per shot. Nothing in the big scheme of things.

ill play inside whit the yellow foam balls and put my skytrak settings on 5000Ft and than it works great

I have amazing success with Srixon Q Star Tour white balls. Seems to be lots of contrast between the logo and aiming line and have virtually zero no-reads
