  • SkyTrak v4.0 Beta

    Hi Everyone,

    Before we do a full rollout of v4.0, I’d like to let the forum test drive it. The release notes are pretty self-explanatory, but do take note of the graphics quality options found in the in-game settings. We initially set it automatically based on your device’s graphics capabilities, but feel free to play around to find the best combination of graphics/performance.

    A lot has changed with Apple and Google since our last release. Apple has discontinued support for the original iPad Air and will not allow it to upgrade to iOS 13. Because of this, we will not be able to offer the v4.0 upgrade and beyond to original iPad Air. For Google, as of November any app updates must meet new requirements for Android 10, so many older devices will not be able to run v4.0 and beyond.

    The visual graphics of the range look great - I always thought the range was a bit "Nintendo" looking and have been awaiting this change for quite some time - you did not disappoint. The deeper greens and the more detailed sky and trees look a lot more professional. The tracer and views though, as others have stated, need some more work before I would release this to the masses. The follow view is at such an angle that it makes the ball appear to have a much much flatter flight and isn't as good. And again like others, prefer the flight of the older method from a ballflight perspective - If the shadows were there in the past, I never noticed them as when I do now - that is a big plus and adds depth to the view. The actual tracer line is probably too wide, especially in the dynamic setting - much too unnatural and the flip view at the end is just strange to watch - I think the flight of the v3.4.1 had the best tracer line - a bit thinner. Obviously the more options the better to the end user to tailor what they like to see - but for me give me back the follow view of the older version as it is what I used 90% of the time.
    Haven't done much else, but wanted to at least give some feedback.
    Ability to change the tracer line color would have been nice to see, maybe something to think about.

      New graphics are a nice improvement. Maybe some combination of the old and new version follow ball tracer? Something that shows the ball flight from static first person so you can see the initial curvature (like the new dynamic flight starts out minus the starbust effect) and then once it hits peak, switch to following the ball into the green like the prior version?

      The way the ball hits and interacts with the green on shots with high backspin does seem a bit unnatural? It's like it hits and instantly shoots backwards. A typical shot would have a little bounce or two forward and then roll back quickly at first and then slow down as the backspin dies out.

        Thanks for the feedback! Yep, based on all the feedback here, I'll get that camera view back closer to v3.4.2 before we release. Will probably tweak the tracers in a follow-up release if needed. For now, tracer color is only changed (automatically) when you change clubs.

          Thanks! Yeah, we'll hold onto first person view a bit longer like v3.4.2 for the full release. (still looking into the starburst thing...it doesn't happen to everyone). Agree about some of the green behavior, but we will be tweaking ground physics in a later release.

            Installed last week but haven’t been able to log in again in the last few days, shows unit is connected & licenses but won’t complete log in?
            works fine with TGC19 though?

              First time I installed then ran the beta it worked fine, now it's hanging on logging in, just has the middle band with "Logging in" message. I can see the unit has connected to the software. FYI if I close Skytrak I can successfully connected to e6 connect.

                Are you closing E6 fully (exiting from system tray), before trying to use Skytrak?

              I'm having the same issue from time to time. I have to close the app and relaunch it, which usually fixes the issue, but sometimes I have to do that 2 or 3 times. I can't remember this happening with v3.

                  I like the update for the most part. Graphics are much better. The follow the ball view isn’t as good as the previous version but I can get use to it. I would like see a more realistic ball reaction when landing on the greens to include the ability to get it in the hole.

                  lastly the only issue I saw was the inability for an already registered additional user (switch user) to log on with their account. We simply get the wheel of death and are forced to utilize the main user for all.

                    SkyTrak_Seth - Any ideas when an update to the 4.0 beta might be available. I have just gone back to 3.4.2, as I just cannot get used to the follow ball view.

                      We've already reverted that view back to v3.4.2. Finally got the last bag bug sorted today and hope to release a new version early next week.

                      This is the 4.0 skytrak software update. Playing a few rounds on TGC makes no sense? This is like your local course updating the greens and you going to another golf course entirely to test them.

                            For anyone with login issues, I confirmed there were no reports of the server being down. My only suggestion would be to clear your local cache in case something got corrupted with the upgrade - just delete the SkyTrak folder in C:\Users\[current user]\App Data\Local Low and then open the app again.
