  • Skytrak and E6 (demo)

Been testing the Skytrak with E6. Connection is easily done through wifi. Bill data is measured and fed to E6 using its algo's. Delay is about 3 seconds. Probably ok with most folks but those that expect it immediate may be annoyed. They are working on improving the shot to show time. Chipping works fine. No putting as of yet. One thing that is critical is having the unit exactly aligned to the target line. If off it will affect the horizontal azimuth. Right now they don't have the alignment assist option available within E6 but I suggest they allow it to make it easier to align. Overall however it works fine.

I wonder if we will get to try the 30 day e6 demo that other systems can try

I didn't mean SkyTrak seemed like a toy, just WGT. It's not even in the same realm as E6 or TGC.

Your right and the pricing will reflect that too. E6 and TGC will require a gaming computer (I think, can't say 100%, but would make sense for the processing power required).

I guess we'll find all this out in the coming weeks, very exciting times!!!

It truly amazes me how much this software costs, I know its the same for all of them, but in the case of TGC, the game is $50, I appreciate there is a fair bit of work going into making it compatible for sim play, and the volume of sales wont be anywhere near the same, but if the price is in line with E6, which I believe it is, I truly struggle to see where the need to charge the extra $1000+ comes in.

Again I guess its just the way the business is, and from E6 point of view its all they do, as in no "game" product so developement purely recouped through sim software, but is TGC "Sim" really that much different in terms of extra developement cost than TGC "Game".

Perhaps it is, I dont know, but $1800 for 15 courses certainly wont be top of my list for purchase compared to TGC if its the same money or less.

As you say Luv2golf, will be great when all the options become clear and can work out exactly how much all of this is gonna cost, as right now, as someone else said in another thread, when software and PC cost nearly twice as much as the LM itself I think it definitely requires some serious thought.. It is all very exciting though, and cant wait to see what comes along.

Yeah that E6 pricing wouldn't work for me. I can stomach paying $1000 (I would prefer less) for sim software like TGC, because of all the courses and customization potential. I would probably prefer a subscription model at some point to test different/new sim software, but why would I spend all this money and time on a sim setup if I'm locked into say 15 different courses unless I pony up fairly large chunks of money.

It all depends on what you want though. I think Skytrak was smart to partner with WGT for those that don't want to or care to build an elaborate sim setup with a crazy PC, etc. Hopefully they price that correctly for those folks. I can say almost for sure that I wouldn't have gotten so interested in sims if it wasn't for TGC software and the way it looks and feels.

With all that said, having options is awesome and I hope it ultimately drives down prices for the consumer and allows more folks to enter into this crazy addiction.

With all the complaining about the cost of E6, why not just pay the $25-$30 a month to stream the E6 software through your ipad as opposed to buying the software and a pc?

Why not just direct connect hdmi from ipad to the projector?

I probably would. I'm personally going to end up going the software/PC route as my sim build room is going in that direction. Cables ran for that sort of setup and things are getting tidier. It'll be cool to see how all this software plays out.

USB connection from SkyTrak to PC? Does it need the SkyTrak PC demo app to work?

                • #41
Installing now, looks like so far you don't need the skytrak ap/pc version. When you download the demo it will ask you what hardware and Skytrak is an option

This is done without the PC Beta. You download E6 and connect your Skytrak to PC. Launch the E6 software and GOLF!!!

Wow, that is awesome. This will take some of the headache of waiting for full release software away for the time being. I'll set it up and report back later tonight as well.
