  • Skytrak and E6 (demo)

Been testing the Skytrak with E6. Connection is easily done through wifi. Bill data is measured and fed to E6 using its algo's. Delay is about 3 seconds. Probably ok with most folks but those that expect it immediate may be annoyed. They are working on improving the shot to show time. Chipping works fine. No putting as of yet. One thing that is critical is having the unit exactly aligned to the target line. If off it will affect the horizontal azimuth. Right now they don't have the alignment assist option available within E6 but I suggest they allow it to make it easier to align. Overall however it works fine.

Nothing worse than puring a tee shot down the middle, hitting a peach of an approach to 10 feet, then shanking the putt or even worse, 3 or 4 putting from 30 feet sigh. Sounds like I'll be bumping up the gimme range as well to compensate. I havent 3 putted this many times since I was a six year old lol.

I beta tested E6 for two months, and the putting was constantly giving me problems as well as low yardage chip shots. I even setup a very smooth turf layout and used the chipping and putting section in the practice range and still came away with varied results. The most common was a putt that went way off to the right even though the putt was dead straight. E6 has not approved this yet so hopefully we can assume they are working on it before it is released.

Yes, the putting on the E6 is really bad! I wouldn't buy E6 based on my experience with putting...unless they can fix this. Also it won't read very short chip shots.

Soo far I'm going with wgt. E6 graphics aren't even as good as p3 proswing. Let's hope the beta for tgc comes out.

Read my review in the WGT thread. Just finished 1st round on WGT. Pretty cool, but it won't allow multiple user sim play, so you can't have your friends come over and play a round of golf. So with the poor E6 graphics and the limited game play with WGT, I am probably looking at TGC! I really hope they have a demo of TGC so I can try it out first!

I played a good bit on e6 last night, it was fun for sure, a lot of that is merely due to the fact that I haven't been able to do any courses since my optishot. The graphics are definitely out dated, and it would seem it's overpriced for what it is - but we'll have to wait for official pricing. I'm still holding out for TGC, and it also looks like perfect golf might be cool (although that seems much further away from any sort of release). WGT is cool, and has it's place in all of this, but it's not really what I want out of a sim.

I do not understand the graphics issue. I think the graphics on the free demo course are way better than both opti and P3. I have yet to see TGC and from the comments, it is by far the best, but i don't think E6 graphics are really as bad as people make them out to be. And i'm playing on a really crappy computer and cheap video card.

wbond -- I think it's all relative. I totally agree with you that E6 graphics are perfectly playable, and I've enjoyed playing the demo course immensely. But I see where others are coming from. E6 graphics are clearly a generation or two behind current-gen games like TGC (think an old PlayStation 2 game vs. a current-gen PlayStation 4 game). I think the fact that E6 may actually be more expensive than TGC only adds fuel to the fire.

If you're curious about TGC graphics quality, just do a google search for gameplay videos. It's pretty impressive in my opinion. I will warn you though, once you've seen the better graphics, it may be hard to go back.

Sorry, i have seen TGC videos and screen shots, i meant to say that I haven't used TGC so I can't directly compare it to any others. I do have opti, P3 and now the E6 demo and for me, i think the E6 graphics are the best of those. WGT graphics is a different animal though. All personal preference.

                    • Can anyone attest to whether installing SkyTrak v2.0 (on an iOS device) affects playability of the E6 demo? I wouldn't think so unless the update writes the SkyTrak's firmware, but thought I'd see if anyone's tried it. I'm holding off on the basic GIP package until a full course simulator with local multiplayer is available, so for now, E6 is my only option. Don't want to install v2 if it will force me to get the GIP in order to play the E6 demo.

                      • Nah, it won't affect anything for E6. They're already setup to use the latest firmware.

                          • Here is a couple of comments f on an e6 user for over a year.

                            1. Yes graphics are behind what are offered by TGC. They are good, but I think that TGC are well ahead of all others.

                            2. With that said above, I find the accuracy of the courses to be very good with e6. In fact they are very polished and accurate, just the graphics could be better. Irrespective you get real world courses with different tee boxes.

                            3. Sorry, but putting on e6 does not suck. I think you need to look to your hardware. I have measured truly straight puts that are only slightly off to real world differences, which is expected given my synthetic putting grass (nothing is perfect, but for me a straight put of 10 feet is straight at around 10 feet . I find reading a putt on e6'to sometimes be tough given the putting grid is not as good as other sims.

                            • Hey guys! So I tested the E6 with the new Skytrak firmware release....the putting is AWESOME! It's very accurate now! Not like before. I am very impressed with how Skytrak reads the putts. I can actually drain 15 footers...haha. Before release it was pushing the putt way right. Now it's spot on!

wow - mine is atrocious - absolutely terrible. 6* right, 11* right, 8000 RPM backspin (i putted back off the green this morning)
It's really unusable. The interface is also unwieldy without a full keyboard and monitor. Menus within menus.

wilson - i haven't upgraded firmware yet, but also have not had any success with putting. I've found the demo is much more enjoyable if I just bypass putting altogether. You can do this by setting the gimme setting to "Computer Decides." This will end the hole once you're on the green. You can also try "Autoscore," which seems to end the hole when you're in chipping range. Saves a lot of frustration with missed putts and having to navigate the UI.

                            • So I've played e6 several nights in a row now and have some definite issues affecting its playability. First off I am so excited to play sim golf at the house and keep my game in tune this winter. I had my handicap down around 4 earlier this year and now around 6. I played college golf and had +2 handicap 20 years ago. I see sim golf as getting my handicap back down near scratch soon (hopefully)

                              1. Putting is better with 2.0 skytrak software, however I'm still seeing anomalies with the exact same putts hitting my targets and going in slightly different directions. Strange... Speed does seem better as well or that could be me adjusting to sim 20 feet versus "feel" 20 feet...
                              2. At least 3 or 4 times per round the skytrak loses its mind meaning no red dot, red light and it's time to hit a shot. I have to power off the skytrak then do a fly by to get three green lights and a red dot to appear....... Then
                              3. At least 5-7 times per round my shots aren't registered putts irons drives all of the above
                              4. Sometimes I get 3 green lights on skytrak with no red light at all. What to do? Hit a shot nada response. Fly by usually resolves.
                              5. Some sw shots from 80-90 yards travel 50 yards or less, same swing next shot goes 95... Played golf for 30 years I know the difference to within about 5. Never been a problem in skytrak range app. Heck my sc100 reads correctly for 200$

All of these issues completely take me out of simulation mode... Had even par 36 on front nine tonight from championship tees then these things started one by one like a bad nightmare and pulled me completely out of my game. The thought of paying thousands of dollars right now for this is ludicrous. Good luck e6. You had potential and I really want a good simulator but you are just not enough. I pray WGT can be my hero.

I too know my wedge distances well and have seen a 50 yard swings go half way, thats a fundamental flaw. Concur the shots are fine on the ST range.
When I've played E6 in commercial sims I didnt see this problem.

I don't think this is an issue with e6, but with the data being provided to e6 from the launch monitor.
