  • Skytrak chipping and pitch problems

Hi, my skytrak reads pitches and chips like 30% of the time like 4-8 degrees to the right when they definitely are going straight. It seems that it is better in TGC than in the skytrak range. When im on the skytrak range the 60 yard pitches consistently go like 4-8 degrees to the right which is pretty annoying. I tried placing the ball like an inch in front of the laser which seem to make It a little bit better but im still experiencing these kind of misreads. Anyone that has experienced this and has found a solution.
I have the skytrak in the FMJ case, and I did a little test without it which seem to make it a bit better but still like 20% of the balls go straight right.

    Thanks

Could it just be that your Skytrak isn't aligned straight? Adjust the angle that it's facing until the chips start reading as straight. Then start taking some full swings to see how it reads. Typically, hitting short chips is the best way to make sure it's aligned properly. I do it every 3-4 times I play as I think my Skytrak and hitting mat tend to gradually shift around over time.

      1. There should be no difference TGC2019 and ST range. Same ball data.
      2. Most likely the shots are too high and go to the edge of sensor field of view, where lots of lens distortion correction is required. Funky HLA readings are common as you near 50 degree VLA.

      A couple of solutions:
      • Move ball forward (closer to screen)
      • If that is not enough, move ball also one inch closer to unit.
      • If that is not enough, raise Skytrak 1/4 inch (but make sure it still reads woods).

Finally, consider avoiding the high shots. Above 45 degrees, potential misread/no-read trouble awaits. Pros flight even their 60 degree wedge well below 40 degrees. Yes, occasionally they need to get it up when shortsided or in a deep bunker, but they avoid as much as possible. Given the number of Skytrak users who struggle with pitches, many must be launching quite high on a regular basis. If this is absolutely essential, then probably need to look into GC2 or higher.

I tried all of these things and but they dont seem to solve the problem. I'm a scratch golfer myself and launch it pretty low with a 60 degree but even though I tried raising the skytrak a bit or put it in front of the laser I still get pretty frequently some misreads where it reads it straight right. But the problem must be in the launch angle where the ball is going to high like I thought. The only thing I havent tested is lighting and background for the skytrak, do you think that could have some affect on these shots?

As Morini touched on above, I generally place the ball slightly in front of the red dot (in the direction of the screen) for higher lofted chips. For a full-on flop shot I'll place it a good inch in front of the dot. Are you just placing it right on the dot? If so, try putting it a half inch or so in front.

This is very good advice, works extremely well this way. It is the only time I am not placing the ball on the dot for my setup.
    Working...
