So I just got my set up functional (not finished...but working). And my 5 year old “hit” which is really more of a putt, and it wasn’t registering (I wasn’t surprised). My question is, have any of you experienced this? Is there any trick to helping a youngster get a shot to register other than “hit it better”?
Kids and skytrak

The skytrak only cares about the ball. If the trajectory was too low, it may not read, so you could try moving ball back a few inches ... but that puts the Skytrak at higher risk of being struck by shank etc. Also, kids have slower swing speed and low smash, so sometimes I think the club ends up in the image, resulting in no read. Especially kids clubs that has white or other reflective surface on or near the club head. Try teeing the ball up.

I experience the same thing with my 5 year old. It can be discouraging because she gets really excited on the 1 out of 10 shots that register for her. But sheer disappointment in the other 9 lol.
I have found that selecting putter can help because then the camera knows where to look for the ball. And since she doesn't get the ball off the ground at all, it basically just rolls like a hard putt. Make sure to set the ball well behind the red dot for this. When I putt myself I set the ball about 6 inches behind the red dot. When my daughter hits I'll put it a good foot behind. As Morini said, I think her club (and feet and everything else) probably obstruct the camera a lot because there's so many moving parts all over the place with her lol.
If you have TGC2019, there are a lot of putting courses that are good for kids. Do a course search for words like "putting" or "putt-putt" or "short" or "kids" and you'll see a bunch of results. We usually just stick to these now and she just uses her putter. We play alternate shot so that we can actually finish a hole haha.

Make sure the skytrak isn't sitting too high. The bottom of the skytrak should be the same height as the top of your mat. If you are unsure, measure how far the laser dot is from the skytrak, it should be about 11-12 inches away. If its further than that, the skytrak is too high.
