    Losing my dot

Hey all! Finally got my rig up and kinda running. Waiting on my projector and some padding, but it’s coming together. Tonight I got to do my first real practice session.

One issue I was having was that the red dot would disappear for sometimes 45 seconds. Drove me nuts as I didn’t get as many swings in as I wanted. 50 shots in 50 minutes. Way slower than I wanted.

I’d rattle off 5 shots fine then the next 5 were choppy.

I think it could be two issues or a combo of both.

    1. connection to the computer?

    2. background/lighting?

im not fully set up so it was bright and my garage door was behind me. I also was not hardwired between comp and skytrak. I’m in my garage and the network isn’t great. I have a plan to fix both. Just wanted to see which it is or if it is something different.

    1. Use USB mode. Much more reliable than network or direct modes, especially in a garage.

    2. It's possible that the light or reflection off the garage door was interfering and triggering the camera.

I wouldn't put too much stock into it until you have things completed. Typically the dot shows up just a couple seconds after the previous shot is finished.

I disagree. Direct mode is most reliable. USB should theoretically be reliable but due to static, it is not, especially in dry climates. Network mode can be reliable, it really depends on network and distances.

Just speaking from my own experiences. Network mode is usually pretty terrible for me. USB is super reliable with no issues with static or anything. I'm sure it can be a case by case basis.

There are people who swear by USB, others swear by network. It totally depends on how dry your climate is, and also the strength and reliability of network mode. If you have wired PC, and PC is in same location as sim, direct is very reliable. And surprisingly, slightly faster than USB.

Looks like something is triggering a false read. Make sure you don't waggle or move anything white or reflective around (such as shoes). The other option is network. Just connect direct or USB to rule out network issue. Finally, it could be sunlight, so test after dark.

I'm having a similar set of problems. In USB mode, the red light and the laser dot blink on and off (mostly off). It is unusable at the moment. It wasn't a lot better the previous time in USB mode a few days ago so I had tried network mode. Oddly, the connection light is green in USB mode even as the light is blinking. I'm not waggling or really moving at all so it's not that. I tried turning the lights off and that didn't make any difference.

Yesterday it was in Network mode and mostly OK but today, when I tried to use Network mode again, the software on my PC couldn't discover the Skytrak at all but at the same time the Skytrak was in Yellow. Is it possible there is a problem? Are there network problems with using the same SSID when the PC is on 5g and the Skytrak is 2.4g (perhaps there is someway to force the PC to use 2.4g but I'm not sure exactly how to force that)? Is it something else?

I'm wondering if I am doing something wrong or if perhaps, I got a lemon. Any ideas?

Update: I plugged my skytrak into my computer and never lost the red dot the entire time I hit today. Awesome! I did have a few misreads but again, I still have some lighting issues I am working through as I finish my build. It’s just awesome having a functional hitting bay even if it’s not quite done yet!

So USB for the win then?

Don't need any external light. Don't worry about white walls etc unless they are reflective/glossy. Do worry about direct light from windows etc hitting Skytrak sensors.
      Working...
