  • Right Hand Laser Out

Started up the unit this morning, hit about 15 balls and the unit stopped reading completely. Tried various USB cables, unit connects but still doesn't register any shots.
Jumped on this forum and saw a thread that someone else had this issue and the test was to put the unit in a left hand mode and waggle the club through the light and see if it goes out.

Did that in left hand mode, light goes out with each pass of the club through the spot. Back on right hand mode, the light never goes out.

Now I have to send it in for repair, got a RMA from Skytrak. Can't wait to hear what this is going to cost to repair out of warranty and only having hit maybe 1000's balls with it.
Seems pretty weak for what this unit cost and the yearly fee to use it.

How many others have had this issue ?

Sorry, just to be clear. Have you actually hit balls with left hand side. I don't think club waggle is diagnostic enough. The laser curtain is not supposed to trigger from club, only ball.

No, haven't fully hit balls left handed. I'm right handed and don't have any left handed clubs. But a casual left hand swing through the bean without a ball turns the ball light out with my clubs. Will see if it registers a ball flight just to be sure left handed. Nothing I do turns the ball light out right handed. Will let you know.

Put the Skytrak between your feet facing the ball, then just hit a gentle shot right handed with the Skytrak in left handed mode to see if it triggers.
The fact that the beam goes out with a club waggle does sound like the right laser is shot. I had it few years ago was quoted £300 to fix, so just over $400. Not sure what you would get quoted we do tend to get ripped off a bit in the UK.

I will try that today and get back to you later today. Thanks for the tip on how to check this. I think the right laser is shot too. But will see. If it is, pretty wank that something like this should happen with less than 1000 balls passing through it. I'm sure I'll get bent over for the repair costs no doubt. No wonder their warranty is so short.

Yes, you test left by straddling it. I doubt your lasers are shot.

If you connect USB, most likely you have a static issue. Quickest thing is to try direct connection (wifi to skytrak).

Yup, left handed with the SkyJunk between my feet, worked fine. Ball flight worked fine. It's the right handed laser.
1000 balls at most and having this issue, totally unacceptable.
No choice now but to get bent over and have it fixed.

Once I get it back, will sell it and buy the Mevo+

Thanks for the impute. That isn't the problem. It's the right hand laser on my SkyJunk.

Sorry guys, but I'm pissed....$2000.00+ for this SkyJunk to hit maybe 1000's balls.
At 2.00 a ball on this sim, plus the cost to fix it now, money would have been better spent at the range.
How long before it has other problems....that I also have to pay for to have fixed.
                      Unbelievable....

Crappy news. There was a bad batch early on. How old is the unit? I have heard of repairs costing between $100 and $200. I think they charge more for England, but could be wrong. You could also do surgery, and move the left to the right. If you are out of warranty, not that much to lose. I have heard of maybe a dozen trying it, all successful. You will of course not be able to have lefty friends use it, and if you eventually send it in, Skytrak may or may not give you a hard time about it. Personally, I'd probably send it in, but if you want to fix it, you can have it running two hours from now if you look up the some of the posts for guidance.

Paid the $30.00 for shipping and insurance to send it back to them for repair. Went out today.
It's 2 years old, but haven't used it much. Just set up my indoor studio a couple of months ago.
Mostly just play golf 3 days a week on various real courses.
Want to have it repaired so I can sell it and try to recover as much of the money I spent for it.
As they say, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.
So they had a bad batch and I end up getting stuck for the repairs because the quality sucks. No wonder why their warranty is so short.
I'm not going to risk having to repair it constantly at my expense when the quality leaves a lot to be desired. Live and learn.....
I do appreciate your help through this Morini....

You never know, maybe they will show you some goodwill. I think they should given that it is unambiguously a sourcing issue on their part. At the very least, they should give GIP credit for the cost of repairs.

We'll see, I would hope and like to think so. We'll know in the next week or so what their intentions are.
