Hey everyone...just joined the forum. I am about to buy a SkyTrak and I think I have decided to go with the E6 Connect. I have a nice setup in the garage with plenty of room to swing with a mat, net and projector (have an Optishot 2 but need an upgrade). Any tips, tricks or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just wait another month and buy the bushnell launch pro for $1000 more.
Judging off of how the GC2 and GCQuad have performed it will be more accurate and more enjoyable to use.
I would at least wait for more info to be released on the launch pro before pulling the trigger on anything in the $2000-$5000 price range. -
I could see waiting to see pricing on the Bushnell but I’ll tell you I absolutely love my Skytrak. After learning a bit about it initially (proper setup, importance of using a new ball, etc.) I have simply loved using it and have found it to be very accurate. I would not personally spend $1k or $2k more for the promise of marginally better accuracy, but certainly can understand why others feel differently.
Tip - I really enjoy the “randomizer” feature within the Skytrak range software. You can set it to any range of yardages and it then gives you a different yardage for each shot within that range. I’ve found it to be a wonderful way to work wedges, where I have made much more progress than I initially would have thought.
Also, with one exception that I think was because I left my computer on for too long, I’ve had no issues with no reads and very few misreads.
I’ve played e6 a bit and enjoyed it but I have TGC and Creative Golf so don’t really have any good e6 advice. With the other software, again in a bit of a surprise I’ve found it to really help me with course management.

I started with an optishot 2, then moved to a skytrak last year, best investment I've made. The skytrak is night and day difference from the optishot, it is very accurate although coming from optishot I didnt believe it at first, haha. the optishot allowed you you to tweak the software to get the distance you think you should get and the optishot had no idea what the ball was doing, not so with the skytrak. Once I realized I had inside swing syndrome, and got more comfortable my real distances were there. As far as the new bushnell that was mentioned, I don't know anything about it but I can say I got fitted for a new driver this year on a GC Quad, and I told the fitter that the numbers it showed were basically the same as my skytrak which was nice to see. Not saying those units aren't better overall, but for the price I am very happy with the accurate metrics it provides. The biggest issue I have sometimes with the skytrak is when it decides to not read the ball, doesn't happen a lot but when it does it is irritating. I have used the E6 demo, but decided to buy TGC2019 which I like better, more courses offered and ability to design your own courses as well. I have went back and tried E6 a few times and it is nice, just not for me right now.
for suggestions I would make sure you get a nice mat, I went with a fiberbuilt which I like a lot, also search this forum for anything you're questioning as there's tons of info here. Also some very helpful people here will point you in the right direction.
I've had good luck with the skytrak placing the ball
an inch behind the red dot for Driver
half an inch behind the red dot for fairway woods
half an inch in front of red dot for all wedges
4 -5 inches behind red dot for putter
on the red dot for all other clubs

I agree with the others: SkyTrak is awesome. If you have a mat with a fixed rubber tee, place the red dot an inch or so just in front and left of the tee. Then play your irons on the red dot or just in front or behind as spaz suggests. SkyTrak will read any balls within about a 3 inch diameter. I have played 4 rounds in a row now on TGC with 0 misreads. I believe that E6 has an option that auto aligns your putts. I recommend that you use that, as putting is the weakest link for any launch monitor. SkyTrak is a great product and fun. Enjoy.Comment

Thanks everyone for the tips! One thing I am a little confused about is the game improvement plan vs. play and improve plan. I was thinking about just getting the E6 Connect Basic which it says requires a GIP or P&IP. What would be the difference between the two? I am sure there is somewhere on this forum that might explain it but diving in to try to find it might be time consuming. If I had the GIP and the E6 Connect Basic would I be able to play the courses it says are available with the E6 Basic Connect? Also, most of the responses so far you all have the TGC...what is the difference there? I will be using a PC for simulation once I pull the trigger and I know that makes a difference between what I may want to get. Thanks for your help! I just dont want to go buy something and realize its not what I want. I will use the driving range quite a bit but especially come winter time I would want to play some courses as well.Comment

All you need is the GIP to connect to 3rd-party sim software like TGC and E6 Connect. PIP adds only WGT, an iPad-only, single-player-only, sim software. My SkyTrak is set to be delivered today! I do not have the computer yet that I will be using to run the sim software...haven't quite decided yet on E6 or TGC. If I I stall the software on the computer I have now just to use the driving range will that mess up the install once I get the PC I will ultimately use?Comment

(6 years of SkyTrak use now) works excellent. Occasionally it goes from reading 99% of shots to like 50% of shots, but EVERY time for me it’s been user error:
the most common problems that have caused it for me:
worn out logo
monitor not at same height as mat
ball sitting directly on laser dot (i found that whenever it stopped reading i just had to move the ball closer towards me and further backwards about a half inch on each side, works like a charm)
get a case too. You might not think you would ever hit one that bad, but if you hit thousands of balls you eventually will. 2hcp here, and having the case saved my assComment

Reading this thread I get the impression that the Bushnell Launch Pro is 'coming soon'.
I went to Bushnell site, it's there for $2999.
