  • SkyTrak Is Very Inaccurate

I have owned a SkyTrak for just over a year now. When I first got it, the device was wonderful. Nearly all of the metrics (besides club speed which I know it does not measure) were very accurate. However, now, my unit is very inaccurate. I am specifically referring to carry distance.

Compared to on the course and Trackman, it reads my carry distances anywhere from 10-30 yards short. This isn't just on long irons and woods, but short and mid-irons as well. I use ProV1's with the unit on a high-quality mat. I am a scratch golfer so I know the SkyTrak is off.

When I contacted SkyTrak, they were very rude and basically said it was my problem.

Do any of you have any advice? Everyone else seems to have accurate readings.

    Thanks in advance!

So you have taken it outside and confirmed it’s reading short or used it with a track man at the exact same time reading the same shot and confirmed its reading short? If so, take some pics of the data and then try contacting skytrak again. Something should stand out if that’s the case, ball speed launch and spin, one or multiple would be way off.

Yes, I have compared it side by side with Trackman. Way off on numbers, specifically spin (read high) and ball speed (way low). I sent this info to SkyTrak and they said that they cannot verify the accuracy of the Trackman, and therefore cannot do anything.

If you posted a screen shot of results from this side by side, it would be very helpful. 99.5% of the time it is a setup issue. If you went side by side with TM and three were consistent errors, you effectively proved that it is a case of one of the extremely rare miscalibrated skytraks. But i don't know how it would screw up ball speed. Unheard of as far as i know. Just two pictures of a ball, really nothing that can go wrong.

I’m having a problem with the Skytrak reading spin rates accurately. I was hitting a nine iron and was getting as low as 2800 which would cause my distances to be long. Tried new balls, marking up some balls and putting a desk lamp on the ball from behind the Skytrak. Any idea’s?

It could be mat. Try off a low tee. Separately, I have a theory that under some conditions, skytrak under reports spin for mid irons for high ball speed golfers. The lamp does nothing.
