Thanks for sharing your story! I have always been interested in the back story of our community members.

First, to help keep injuries from creeping in I think most would recommend getting a Fiberbuilt mat. They're expensive, but great durability and will hopefully help keep from getting injured.

Luckily launch monitors have been holding their resale value fairly well over the past couple of years. This will help when you want to upgrade from the SkyTrak to Uneekor. I started with a SkyTrak and thought it was awesome and it still has a great driving range. I had an opportunity to get the GC2/HMT and jumped on it. Someday I would like to get the Eye XO...you can probably see the natural psychology of wanting the next best thing, right? So, if at all feasible in your budget you might want to consider just going with the QED. Are you and your fiancé both right handed or left handed?

You will find lots of great DIY posts regarding building sim rooms in this forum.

I moved my post as I wasn't sure this was the right spot, but I might as well respond here! Thanks for the response! I really appreciate the mat suggestion - I've been planning on getting a smallish hitting strip and building it within a slightly cheaper mat for standing on, but I will certainly be looking into the Fiberbuilt.

I'm glad to hear they're holding value pretty well. I thought about buying used, but I've had some bad experiences there so it's a bit worrying. I figure the difference between used and new is pretty small in the whole scheme of the build, so buying new might be the way to go (unless you have any suggestions). I'm 23 and graduating this spring; I'll be farming with my dad (we have a 1200-acre family grain farm) and running a classical piano studio. I'm actually glad for the end of my ball career (though I could go without the back pain) - I changed career paths and became trained as a concert pianist, which is my true passion.

I'm tempted by the Uneekor, but I think the Skytrak is our best option because I'll be set up in my sister's garage for the next year or so. She lives like a minute away (we're all on the same farm), and we might be doing a mix of house sitting and renting after our wedding next summer until we can build a home, so the mobility of the Skytrak is a plus. My fiancee is a lefty but she swings right, so it wouldn't be a problem there.

GungHoGolf I similarly recently got into building a sim. I now have all the parts at my house except for the projector, which is sitting in port with everything else right now. I hope to build my enclosure early next week, but I recommend checking out the site for the gentleman I linked above. Google gunghoholf and look through his website. Shipping was expeditious and they have been great about answering a litany of questions for me during my setup.
