I'm new to the golf sim world and looking to embark on a garage sim set-up. In regards to the LM/Simulator, the total investment can be confusing with all the add on software and annual subscriptions. So I'm trying to compare the 5 year operating costs of the various options. For example, I'm estimating the 5 year cost for a Skytrak to be approximately $3500($2000 LM, $1000 TGC 2019 and $100 per year Game improvement. Does that seen accurate? How would a Mevo plus or some of the other units compare - GC2, BLP, QNK?

I am not sure what exactly you are referring to. The Skytrak and Mevo+ are priced identically, so the only difference is Skytrak's annual $100 GIP membership, for $500 total difference over 5 years. We could talk about mats, screens etc, but those are the same for all sims. Same for sim plans. We can also talk about re-sell value. I bought mine refurbished from Skytrak with a case for $1500 3-4 years ago. I could have sold it for a tidy profit last year. Will get my money back if I sold today. Will that be true in another 3-4 years. Unlikely, but who knows.

As someone who was a former SkyTrak owner, your costs are relatively accurate. However, a big omission from your post is what you have forgotten to add, namely:- A PC to run the sim software;
- A hitting mat;
- An enclosure or net; and
- A TV or projector

Thanks for the feedback guys. I assumed the Mevo and SKT would be similiar in ownership costs. And realize there are many other cost with a sim build. Thanks again. Are there any subscriptions or add on fees for something like a used GC2? Or maybe get a Bushnell Pro Launch with Silver Pk. Total 5 year cost would be ~ $4200. And it should have more resale?Comment

Presumably you'll be keeping parts of the setup if you upgrade so the way I broke it down was to figure out the cost of the hitting area, display and enclosure separately from the monitor (since they're basically all the same in a large enough space) and just compare ownership/operating costs and potential resale of each device.
Even at 1300USD, by the time I paid for shipping to Canada, duty taxes and two years of GIP, it was the same cost as a new Mevo+ and I still needed to buy software. Easy decision.Comment

But wouldn't you have to add duty and taxes to the Mevo+ as well. The real difference is the annual $100 for GIP. -
Morini no, the Mevo+ is already cheaper than Skytrak by about $200 in Canada, plus it frequently goes on sale for 10% off. I got mine for $2400CDN brand new including taxes and shipping.
Edit: also didn't mention it includes software whereas ST has a minimum of $300 for Fitness Golf, plus the aforementioned yearly $145. But mostly it's the shot delay that drives me nuts.Last edited by bubbtubbs; 12-28-2021, 02:45 PM.

Not really as they are $3K new, so maybe you will get $2300 (assuming used product prices hold up). That will leave you minus $2700.And it should have more resale?
Not sure why you like to use the 5 year calculations. Is that to compare to Bushnell? I think Bushnell is an awful deal, and I'd just get the GC3 version. That WILL hold up better in terms of re-sell value.
