  • Newbie Skytrak Issues

    Hi,

Recently purchased Skytrak, experiencing following issues...

    1. Pull/Draw/Hook bias - Not sure if this is me or my the hardware alignment or a hardware issue. Anyone else experience this recently? If I work hard to to push the ball right or keep my face open, it may start offline right slightly, eventually drawing way left.

    2. Low spin numbers - 2400 RPM 7 iron? To help decipher whether this is a swing flaw, what swing fault would cause this in real life?

    3. Low club head speed - This is the most glaring issue in my opinion. I'm a 35, fairly athletic player. Driver swing speed nothing amazing, but measured at 100-105 MPH on other devices. Yet somehow every single club on the Skytrak measures at like 75 MPH, whether it's a 58* or a 5 iron. The ball speed increases accordingly, but the club head speed doesn't. I'm wondering if this attributes to the low spin numbers or vice versa?

I'm going to do some troubleshooting today by using a fresh sleeve of balls, using a tee (to rule out mat issues), and finally calling Skytrak themselves.

    Any tips or insights?

    Thank you!

Is the unit level? Is it also level with the surface you are hitting from? Are you hitting outside or inside? Light can also affect these things.
Clubhead speed is just an estimate based on it's measurement of the ball speed.
I have had Skytrak for 3 plus years. It works great if it is set up properly. You certainly will get the occasional misread, etc. But in general, it's great.

      Thanks for the quick response.

The unit is level. I believe the surface I am hitting from is level with the mat. I read it's better to have the unit off the mat, so I'm using the legs to level it to the mat the best I can...

I am hitting in my garage.

So if the unit measures an increasing ball speed directly, why would it not calculate/estimate a fast club head speed?

"It works great", as in you have no issues with spin and club head speed (more or less)?

It works great as I don't have number issues. I don't look at the numbers on my $2K Skytrak as the gospel. But I have hit on a Trackman a few times this year and the numbers are comparable. What I see on Skytrak is pretty representative of what I see on the course. Are you making solid contact on all of your shots. Do they all feel great? Have you hit inside your garage before. It does take some getting used to.

You can level the unit from the little "level" symbol on the main screen. You can also check your alignment from the same screen.

        Good luck.

What mat do you use? Hitting behind the ball on a hard rubber mat can cause all of the issues you listed. I use a reel feel mat and you can tell when you get it fat. Harder mats can disguise it.

              1. There is no spin axis bias on Skytrak. Side on photometrics are great that way. It literally analyzes two pictures and looks at ball spin. Very hard to screw this up.
              2. Spin numbers are accurate overall, but if you have high ball speed (130 mph +- 7 iron ), it seems to half or quarter spin for some users. But it could also be your mat. To rule out mat, hit off a short tee. If your spin is low across the bag, very likely mat. If only 7 iron, then maybe not. As for the spin halving, try without the case.
              3. Ignore club speed. It is based off ball speed, and is quite accurate if struck center face. If not, by definition inaccurate. Just disregard, TBH.

As a follow up and further to points #2/3, I did a bag mapping session yesterday and got these numbers with my 7iron.

As far as I know that 7 iron speed is below the threshold to have the halved spin erroneously. What is spin like on other irons? What happens when you hit 7 iron off a short tee? You do have quite a bit of side spin on these. I'd also footspray to see where you make contact.

Most likely this is an accurate read of the ball. If you want to confirm, take the unit to the range.

Honestly, I have gone back and forth thinking my skytrak has a draw bias. I settled it recently when I started taking lessons and hit in a bay a few days ago. My lessons use a GCQuad and my flight outdoors clearly line up with what I am seeing in my skytrak. I’m just flat out drawing the ball too much.

yardages for me are spot in with gcquad
