I know there has not been any official announcements, but I was wondering if anyone has heard any rumors about Perfect Parallel's game integrating with SkyTrak when they release the sim version?

My comment is based on assumption that TCG when used as simulator is exclusive for ProTee. E.g. you need to buy the ProTee SW to be able to use it.Originally posted by Bubba22 View PostNothing yet on PG and ST. Waiting to test. I would say TGC and ST would be the best combo.
If that is wrong then I would prefer TGC over PG at least until the PG course forge is released. After that who knows.
Just saw that Martin is advertising TGC support. Will be interesting to see what the cost will be.

OK, I did not know that. But for the sake of argument let's assume Trackman wants to offer TGC support.
My understanding is that they will have to buy the PC driver from ProTee to interact with TGC. Is that the case?
If yes, how much do you think they would have to pay? Assumption is that the end user cost will probably end up at 4x what they paid.
The point here is that all sim software already has some kind of internal parameters that we could interact with to feed in launch data if they only allowed us to by opening up the API to do so.
In the same way all launch monitors and other devices that measure ball or club data can present those to the outside world thru whatever interface that exist using whatever proprietary protocol they choose. There is no need to have any compatibility between the various devices since I think that is too much to ask.
So if we had a way to get the raw numbers from for example Skytrak using a PC or iPad. Any average programmer could easily develop a link layer that feeds/translates that in to whatever sim software that exist. And that link layer would obviously be free as all SW that is developed by the community tends to be.
I believe a little less greed and a bit more openness would grow the industry and benefit everybody. Including the sim software and hardware manufacturers. Since I am not an expert on the industry I acknowledge that this might well be a naive conclusion. But I am definitely not paying 100's or 1000's of $ for the link layer that connects the sim SW and LM hardware I already paid for.

I totally agree with you. I do not understand why hardware companies not see the light of the fact that adoption would be far greater and wide spread when platforms are "open". A good example is Apple and the app store. Facebook, exactly the same, when API's are available your customer based grows exponentially due to the opportunities. As you said, my opinions might be naive as well, however, I think of myself as a "model customer" for ST, and as I have mentioned in other posts, in order to stay relevant in a changing, growing or evolving market you have to be open, flexible and willing to consider greater market opportunities.
@davray Are you a software/hardware/app developer? Maybe we should consider starting a "Hacking Skytrak" thread on gsf

Hi paschmann,
Hacking Skytrak sounds like fun but is not something I would waste time on. If they don't want to do it I don't see a reason why we should do the job for them.
In my day job I work as a hardware and software engineer and right now I am working on camera based safety systems for cars. A while back I did a launch monitor build just for fun just to see how hard it would be to build something that is better or just as good as GC2. It's not that hard but it is a lot of work, so the prototype is collecting dust right now due to lack of time.
All free time is currently spent on the golf course or in the garage practicing :-)
I know a thing of 2 about the future of vision processing platforms, in a year or 2 we will see systems that are open and much better than anything that exists today. If no one else does it (I hope they do so I don't have to) I will.
