  • Protecting Skytrak

So I received my ST today and love the accuracy/ease of use. However, it makes me nervous having it so close and slightly in front. Anyone have any protection ideas until the protective case is released? I was planning on using it with our First Tee kids but I am holding off until the unit can be protected.

  • Wev, I would be interested in receiving a copy of the drawing please?

    • I want to build it and test it first.

      • Ok, would be interested to see the results. Shame we can see the data that he Skytrak cameras see to check that nothing is obscuring the window - or does the status lights tell us that? Hmm, will have to play about with cardboard to check that (although I suppose that's what you've already done?).

        • Ok, about to embark on a little Skytrak Case manufacturing myself. First step is to model the Skytrak, so here we have it. Someones going to tell me that there's already been one published I suppose.

              • Not yet, I'm crap at welding so waiting for one of my employees to do it, but they're busy at the minute.

My SkyTrack misses a lot of shots normally so I've been getting to the bottom of that for the time being, as want to be certain that if it doesn't register a shot it's not due to the shield blocking the view or a WIFI issue etc.

Mine missed a lot of shots too, but after I move the ball inside the red dot (i.e. Move the ball closer to the Skytrak) it works every time.

              • Hey guys, for those of you cutting Lexan what are you using to make precision cuts? I've already tried a dremel cutting bit that melted the Lexan. Then I tried a grinder that worked kind of ok but still unable to make small precise cutouts.Straight line cuts are no problem with a miter saw.

I am not sure if I am thinking what your talking about but When working with Lexan I use a bench belt sander to smooth and straighten outside edges. For inside edges I use dremel with round sanding bit. A grinder with a flap wheel works. then you can touch up / shine up with a fine grit sand paper.

I used a dremel to cut mine. Yes it did melt the lexan a bit but for me it doesn't have to look pretty as long as it works. When I finish rearranging my garage I'll post a picture of what I made

              • You need to use plenty of soap solution and then machining is a doddle. I was going to mill mine as that has not proved a problem before.

what are you going to do about the big open window leading straight to the expensive stuff?

Take my chances. The odds would be very small for a direct hit there. I'm tired with building sim stuff so I don't have the enthusiasm or skills to build my own case as well. I applaud all the home brew efforts here though.

                • Think I read somewhere it was late October/early November. You getting UK or import?

                  • Probably in January 2017. I ordered one also, but figure it will "get here when they are damn ready"
