  • SkyTrak and The Golf Club (TGC) Simulation Software

Hi Seth. I'm new to this forum but have been reading as much as I can about SkyTrak on this and other forums. It seems that many experienced sim users think that The Golf Club game is the best simulator software out there right now. In fact, if I'm understanding and remembering things correctly, Bubba22 and Zmax were instrumental (please correct me if I'm wrong) in getting ProTee to integrate their sim hardware (and gc2) with The Golf Club software. So my question to you/SkyTrak is simply this: Has there been any thought to integrating SkyTrak with The Golf Club? And if so, what are the odds that this might happen? And if so, when?

  • I have just downloaded 'The Golf Club - Collectors Edition' to see if it would run on my laptop before purchasing the SkyTrak compatible version. My CPU is an i7 so I knew that would handle the game but I thought my graphics card may struggle a bit as it's only a GTX 860M... Thankfully I can report that the game seems to run fine (although I do have to turn the tree details down).

So my question now is... If my laptop runs 'TGC - Collections Edition' to an acceptable level, is there any reason it won't run the SkyTrak version of TGC to an acceptable level? I assume both games require exactly the same specification but I need to be 100% sure of this before I make the purchase as it's a lot of money!

Thanks for posting. Just purchased an Alienware Alpha with i5 CPU and some kind of tweaked 860M. Reviews I read seemed unanimous that graphics performance was superior to XBOX ONE, which runs TGC to my satisfaction. Figured I would give it a go, but nice to get confirmation that yours was able to handle the load.

Pretty good deal at $599 (i5, 8GB RAM, 1 TB drive) for those who need a machine to run TGC, especially since it will also serve as my next home PC.

Jake how did you get an alienware that cheap?

Sorry, just saw the question. No special treatment, the Alpha is alienware's PC gaming console. i3 sells for 399, i5 for 599, i7 for 699 USD.

    • Initial experience with tgc wasn't that great. Bare in mind I am playing with a PC that doesn't fit into that recommended by Protee. The skytrak disconnected from the game several times (literally felt like every 7-8 shots), the game froze on putts inside 3 feet and the delay was terrible (twice as long as e6 demo).

Can anyone touch on their initial experience? I am in the process of upgrading to a gaming computer, if someone has one and has tested with skytrak, do you find you still have a long delay? Any disconnections from the game?

      Thanks guys

      • Just played 9 on tgc.... My feedback...Overall liked it. Much much better than WGT (no surprise there) and much better than e6 demo, especially on and around the greens... I think this sim will get some serious usage with the crew...

Couple small issues for protee to think about...
1- had system / game lock up while putting once... Couldn't get Skytrak to come back w/o leaving game and turning Skytrak on and off..
2- hit ball right behind 150 marker... No way to move ball or marker... Next shot clanked off marker and went backwards 30 yds... Thought it might ignore it on shot, but that is not the case
3- some of the wait times between shots took too long in my opinion... Upwards of 5 secs... other times around 3.
4- when using gimmes on green, would be nice if system told u how many putts it assigned or computed number of putts like e6 does..
5- should add option to allow current player to finish hole when inside 100 yds ( or some pluggable distance) to speed pace of play when multiple people playing locally... Otherwise rounds can drag out having to have other players continually switch out...

But all in all, good, fun, visually appealing sim! solid release and fun to play...

          1. You can switch a club back and forth to reset the ST back to green.
          2. In the ESC menu there is an option to declare ball unplayable.
          3. Long wait times could be related to PC speed, network or USB speed issues. Make sure no other programs are running and temporary disable realtime virus scanners.
          4. The gimmies and number of shots added are explained in the settings.
          5. We can't do 100 yards, but finish the hole within 15 yards is implemented, so you can skip chipping and putting. Check the gimmies in the settings.

          Have fun!

1- tried that.. Didn't try toggling putt mode though, so will give that a go next time.
2- saw that... But 150 marker should be considered movable / temporary obstruction and not cost u a stroke. Declaring ball unplayable does... Again minor...
5-think u are referring to setting gimme range here which is different...

      • ProTee United. I am very impressed with your willingness to stay online and answer so many questions so quickly late into your night or early morning. Glad to see excellent customer service. Nicely done.

          • Can somebody post a YouTube video of actual setup and play?

You guys are nuts buying it so fast with all the problems on skytrak that we have had and not even getting a demo?

          • Played TGC tonight. It was a lot of fun! Putting and chipping is great and very accurate. It's nice to actually be able to sink putts in. Putting seems to roll very true and I'm not getting the pushes right like I did in E6. Very happy with putting. Short chips worked great too!

I've been having No Read issues with my Skytrak. Where red laser stays and doesn't read shot. This issue continued in TGC. Also had to turn off my Skytrak twice withing 6 holes. After rebooting Skytrak I had to Exit the game, reconnect using Skytrak interface and then start game again.

Wish TGC had a way to reconnect the Skytrak without exiting the game. This is an essential requirement.

TGC needs multiple tee boxes. This is a must!

The delay was about 3-5 seconds. Longer delay than E6, and I have a high end gaming PC (i7 32GB RAM and 6GB GTX980ti graphics card). So disappointed about the delay.

Don't like how the Zoom goes past the hole. I know this issue is being worked for a future update.

This was funny, I actually made a 85 yard wedge shot that landed past the hole and back spinned in the hole. But here's what's funny. I watched the replay. During the replay the ball spun back and did not go in the hole...haha. So my real shot it went in and the replay it rolled on the edge past the hole...haha. Definitely a bug.

TGC Update I would really like to see:
            - The shot analysis text is so small and hard to read. This should be fixed and organized a little better with larger font! I would think that would be an easy fix in an update. Just cosmetic.

I am looking forward to joining the TGC Tour!!!!!

              • Having played the last 4 hours I'm loving it! Took a little getting used to the controls and all after being used to e6 for so long, but once you do it is crazy fun being able to play all these courses.

I built a pretty decent computer with an i5 and 970 and found the delay was pretty much what e6 was.

My two biggest issues were first off I tried playing with no gimmies and kept having short putts (4ft and under) not register. The laser would go off like it was trying to read it and then just stay off until I reset. That happen a ton of times. Tried different ball positions but no consistent fix on that yet. Not sure what the solution to that is. But when I had my gimmies on at 6ft as I usually do had no problem at all.

My second issue was a very small one and was the light green writing on the after shot screen and the grid on the green were a little tough to see at times.

Overall I know I'm gonna be putting in some crazy hours on this sim and glad it's finally here. And also, completely agree on the putting being surprisingly super realistic, especially if you put it on that low view while putting, you can really get a feel of where and how hard you need to hit it. Great work!

Please try selecting a club by pressing Z or X when the light turns red and no shot is launched. This no launch should not happen. I'm curious to see if selecting a club will reset the unit and switch the green light back on.

Since the Tour uses 2 yard gimmies, I just leave it on that. You are right, putting is fantastic. Time for you to go to Q School and establish your handicap, so you can join the tour. http://myonlinegolftour.com/home.php

Haha that's funny, I must have been writing my review at the same time and read yours after I posted mine and ended up saying pretty much the same thing on the issues

                • As far as putting goes I'm interested in how accurate ît is. about a 5 or 6 feet Putt can you purposely miss it right or left by about 2 inches? Also any issues with aligning your skytrak do you have it aligned open to target line or parallel to target line or?

Not totally sure on the alignment yet, just left it where I had it pretty accurate with e6 (which actually has my lasers lined up straight but the skytrak itself is aiming a tiny bit left). The putting felt very accurate, even on short putts 6 ft and in. There were actually a ton of putts where just as I hit it I knew I pulled or pushed it slightly and sure enough it would skid into or miss the left side of the hole and visa versa. So based of my short trial so far I would say yes to the accuracy within inches on it.

                    • Finally got TGC setup and played the Par 3 Masters course. Very realistic game play, except I am not used to such firm course conditions (in pacific northwest). I did have issues where putting would freeze (light stays red on skytrak). Had to rewind the shot to get it play again. After I made sure the logo faces the camera, it improved, but still had some cases where it got stuck. Something for Skytrak (I think) to look at.

Can you try select a club when this happens? Just press Z or X on your keyboard. Then switch back to putter. Let me know if that turn the light back to green.

Whoops, I should have been more clear, by reset that's what i meant i was doing, if i just click putter again the laser does comes back on right away, dont have to shut anything down at all. But did have to do that a bunch of times in a row to get some short putts to register
