  • SkyTrak and The Golf Club (TGC) Simulation Software

Hi Seth. I'm new to this forum but have been reading as much as I can about SkyTrak on this and other forums. It seems that many experienced sim users think that The Golf Club game is the best simulator software out there right now. In fact, if I'm understanding and remembering things correctly, Bubba22 and Zmax were instrumental (please correct me if I'm wrong) in getting ProTee to integrate their sim hardware (and gc2) with The Golf Club software. So my question to you/SkyTrak is simply this: Has there been any thought to integrating SkyTrak with The Golf Club? And if so, what are the odds that this might happen? And if so, when?

  • ProTee United I tried to play a round at Logan Pines TPC Protee (I think that was the name). I noticed two problems:

1 - My Skytrak was picking up anything that moved in front of it as a shot. Standing a foot in front of the ball (i.e. away from the Skytrak device) and taking a practice swing would usually register as a shot. Placing the ball on the dot would sometimes register as a shot.
2 - The distances were crazy long - it was registering a well hit 8 iron as carrying 190 and rolling to 200.

Has anyone else experienced this type of behavior with TGC and Skytrak?

Yes, @protee, the TGC software is showing v1.4 for everything.

I have seen the Skytrak register non-swing movement in the Skytrak app and in E6. The laser turns off for a few seconds as the unit determines whether or not a ball was hit. In the Skytrak app and E6, however, the laser comes back on when it realizes the ball did not move. When the laser turns off when playing TGC I know a false shot is about to be registered and I go to my keyboard to hit replay.

Strange. We do see the same. Laser turns off, top led turns red. After a couple of seconds laser turns back on and led is green again. But no (false) launch. Just ready for next shot. You should be able to test that with a small club waggle over the laser dot in TGC. We can not get it to launch a false shot with a tee up, shoe, or whatever object.

This is very strange indeed. In my limited play time so far, I have yet to register a false shot. I see what Guest sees. Laser turns off, top led turns red and then couple of seconds skytrak determines no ball was hit, so comes back without any shot being registered.

Also my distances are spot on. My 8 iron goes 140 yards as in IRL. Wish it went 170

I am definitely concerned now, even though I personally haven't experiences these issues. Hopefully there is a easy fix for these soon.

  • ProTee United Is the ability to select gimmes from 2 yards or auto-putt a property of each course? It didn't seem like the options to select how I wanted to handle things on the green were fully available.

Played today...frustrating. Probably 8-10 shots were taken but not registered and had to re-hit. Putting inside 1 foot would not register unless I hit it hard then it goes well beyond the hole. Can someone help with this??

No launch monitor is going to reliably pick up a one foot putt. Those should all be gimmies.

Bogey33 1 foot putts not registering is a limitation of the hardware. Putting the before the red dot (to the right) might help a little. When you say shots not registering, do you mean you hit and the top LED on the unit stays GREEN, or does it turn RED, the laser disappears and nothing happens?

I actually think it was the first edge range on the list. Don't think that is elevated. And checked the wind while it was happening too because I also thought that may had been the problem but there was no wind or maybe 1mph. Ill try it again tonight when I get off of work, but only those first 20 balls or so it happened for me, once I reset everything, all the distances were great on the courses for the next 4 hour I played last night.

Same here......also had a few wild puts without touching the ball......a practice swing sometimes triggers a poor shot.

I'll try the system again but the previous 2 times my distances were really L O N G

It seemed like it was only on certain holes for me. Some holes seemed to register distances I would expect and some would give very long yardages. Was it the same for you?

DougieMn Which course were you playing?

  • Just finished playing Magnolia Amen Corner. Every shot and every putt registered just fine today. The shortest putt I had was 2 feet. Made sure of put the ball mark facing Skytrak. Distances all seemed very accurate and the green speed looked pretty normal.

Yes, if I hit it poorly it went the distance I would expect for the club, if I hit it well it went forever. For example my 8 iron is my 150 total with 135-145 carry. While using TGC I would carry 160+ with that club and total up to 180 with roll. Not in the realm of my game. I've played a few holes on a few courses as well as messed around on the range but all seemed boosted.

Is there a boost setting hiding somewhere that could be messing with the distances?

I need to be very cautious around the laser as well, I get a fair amount of shots before even addressing the ball.

I have looked for a boost setting, but the closest thing I found was a difficulty setting which indicated that the harder settings would cause the ball to go farther (I'm assuming this is more related to non-sim play).

    • I can't get it to install. Keep getting this error. Anybody help here?

Played magnolia today... Greens are very tough...some have uphill putts, while other parts of the greens are 2ft downhill slope.....not easy

Went back to that edge range again tonight and all my distance were right on (great ranges by the way rdh). So still not sure what happened that first time I loaded up tgc and getting those crazy long distances but it seems to be gone now after i restarted my skytrak and computer last night after it happened. Hope those others with this problem get lucky like i did and it fixes somehow soon.

Just try and stop me haha, just signed up and just played the first two rounds of Q school tonight....had no idea how much i was gonna enjoy even playing against a few of the ghost balls online. Cant wait to get on the actual tour with you guys the last month or so of the season once Q school is done in a couple days (maybe by tomorrow with how im going at it now). And hopefully some sort of spring/summer tour as well. Working 3 to 11, im always playing golf in the garage at 1am or later, so all year is indoor season for me haha.

When practicing the current course on the tour, I sometimes choose a few of my own ghost rounds. It helps me with club selection and what lines to take. Another thing I like to do when practicing for a tour event is turn on auto rewind on par 3 tee shots. Take about 10-15 tee shots for each one. This way you get a feel for what club to use and what part of the green you want to hit. Once I have made up my mind, I turn AR off and proceed with the round. When using AR your stats will not be kept.

            • There's nothing stopping anyone from playing the tournaments now.

              • When I do a new install to try to correct distances do you want me to remove(uninstall) everything that was previously installed including interface? Will I need a new access code after fresh install?

Another question: Is the only way to launch TGC through the interface? I tried launching through the main program and it will not allow me to enter my access code for the license so I'm forced to start program via interface. Is that how it's supposed to operate?

                  sorry wrong line

              • I've now had a chance to play 5-6 holes of TGC/ST. A few observations/questions. I've only played PGA National Honda Classic (Fri). I chose this one because it had the most plays and was used in one of the TGC tournaments. My first observation is - the graphics are really bad! My PC (brand new, running Windows 10) meets or exceeds all of the TCG requirements as laid out by ProTee, including the graphics card (970).

Is the issue a) I need to change the settings to a higher level - if so, how do you do that? or b) the course I selected is just really poorly constructed (I should hold back judgement until I've played one of the courses listed by ks_man)? If this is as good as the graphics get (I highly doubt it) - I'd have to conclude that E6 is materially better. Hope that's not the case.

Second - The next time I tried to connect to ST through the interface - I got stuck in "connecting....". I could never get the interface to work. I opened a ticket with Protee already. Just asking here in case there is simple fix.

Mario make sure TGC is using the nvidia graphics card and not the onboard intel (or whatever). Go into the nvidia control panel to be sure.

I 2nd MrHogans, I had the same issue. Do you use a projector ? If yes the laptop graphics usually adjusts to the lowest resolution monitor or projector connected. That might be the issue too. If you try to just run it on the computer without any additional screens or projectors connected you should see if that is the issue.
