I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. At least I was.

I had one outdoor day at the range where I hit a 70 ball bucket. In virtually every respect, ST mirrored what I saw as ball flight...just perfectly. As I said above, I felt there may have been issues with measured ball speed for my unit, but as for ball flight rendering, it's a superb experience. It has the opportunity to be an excellent front end for a Sim, undoubtedly.

I agree 100% I cannot wait any longer for simulation. I also took it to the range and hit a large bucket (112 balls) and was pleasantly surprised by the accuracy and shape of the shots. It was hard to dial in the ST target line at the range but the numbers were very accurate and consistent, especially at the price point. I bought the unit for indoor use anyway so difficulty leveling and aligning doesn't bother me at the range. I only had two that were undetected and they were worm burners. I should mention that I had another two shots with my 60 degree that went about 60 yard and the ST picked up 140 yds. I will take 108 out of 112 accurate shots anyday of the week.

So can the indoor environment affect skytrak data? Take a camera if it is in a dark environment there will be lag, both shutter and autofocus, noisey images etc...

So had the unit for a week and just now noticing this small scratch on the screen. Will this affect anything? Ive only hit off of a mat so not sure how it got there.

I have stated a couple of times on different links that I thought the distances are off since the last update.
I was getting better info on 1.8. I was using the unit every day until this update. I got on trackman and the swing speed and distance are more than ST. Distance is 20 to 30 yards shorter. If they can't get it fixed in my opinion it is worthless to me. By the way still won't sync. I just log on as a guest.

I am running V1.8.6, and seeing 15 to 20 yards short of what I typically hit (tried pitching wedge, 8i and 5I. The set up is outdoors (not in sun) and off a mat, hitting into a net ~10ft away. ST is level, 500ft, 70 degrees, no wind, 50% humidity. I tried Titleist and Top Flight white golf balls. Any ideas on how to correct?

Is there any official recommendation from ST on the best way to (mark a golf ball, condition of golf ball, etc..) anything to increase the changes of accuracy of the unit. even illustration of a questionable golf ball condition etc.. More educated users will have a better user experience.

Officially, we say that using a mark on the ball will give you a better chance of the software analyzing the spin correctly. We can track dimples, but using a mark rules out the chance that sunlight or blur could wash out the dimples and cause a mis-read. You don't need to draw a line, just use the ball's logo or the small alignment line on the side.

lterryjr, we didn't touch anything related to distances with v1.8.6. Also, we don't measure swing speed and Trackman does. But, I will say that our swing speeds on well struck shots are incredibly close with driver. We will soon be working in to improve our swing speed calculations on less-than-ideal struck driver shots and also wedges. Very strange though that you cannot sync. Can you verify that your profile says 'v1.8.6' at the top? Maybe you can PM me and we can try a few things? Just to keep the thread on track.

Csarran, nope. That won't affect anything.

Thank you. I'll try your suggestion tomorrow. I just received the ST yesterday, Ii the software hasn't changed did the optics, chips sets or screen change, or questionable batch. Just seems odd, 1.8 was working fine.

Would be great to partner with Swingbyte to get measured info for everything else that the Skytrak can't.
This will be better than a GC2 & SMT combo.

Skycaddie has their own device similar to the Swingbyte - the Skypro: http://www.golfskypro.com/skypro

Some have been critical about the accuracy of this type of technology. I'd definitely like to see them integrate the two together. I've never used the Skypro, but would probably buy one if they were to integrate, considering it's reasonably low price.

SkyTrak + SkyPro will be coming.

Most likely it will be Skytrak and SkyPro not Swingbyte. No way will it be better (I assume you mean more accurate) than GC2 with HMT. Cheaper yes but not more accurate.

I'm having similar results that the original poster of this thread was having. All of my iron shots are 20 to 40 yards shorter than expected. My setup is level with the mat and I'm using new balls. I'm still not able to connect using the network mode - direct connect only. Prior to the 1.8.6 software upgrade I was getting similar results to what I hit outdoors.

I was very happy with my Skytrak when I first started using it. Now, the results are so far off, it's useless. Any suggestions?

Seth, I'm definitely noticing the same distance loss with updates after 1.85. Usually 10-20 yards less, I've noticed that the distance loss seems to be progressively more with long irons. There's definitely something going on with the new algorithm. Agree with you though, I don't think the measurements have changed all that much, but the distance is just shorter.

Just tried putting logo towards ST to determine if it improved the V1.8.6 short distances I was seeing. Slight improvement of ~5 yards on short irons, ~10 yard improvement on 5i. I also tried my hybrid and driver. Definitely progressively shorter distances on longer clubs. I carry my hybrid 190 yards-195yards, was seeing 180-185 yards on ST. Driver typically carry 220-230 yards was seeing 190-200 yards on ST. Anyway of getting V1.8.5? It would be great to compare it to V1.8.6.
