First, new to this forum, Just got a Skytrak home setup from TopShelf golf.... no projection capability yet. Running off iPad, no matter what I try, alignment, unit on mat, unit off mat, unit in case, unit out of case, Pro V1 balls, Almost Golf balls, ball logos emphasized with black Sharpie, placed on red dot with logo toward unit, and even with a 5 iron I can't get the distance to go over 100 yards... my normal 5 iron distance is 185.... very frustrating... tracking and dispersion looks about right, highest ball speed I got with 5 iron and Pro V1 was 80 mph... any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.. I have a scratch golfer coming over tomorrow to validate findings.. hopefully it's something I'm doing and not a unit problem...

The following article is usually a good read for new owners of launch monitors.
New SkyTrak owners frequently complain about SkyTrak not reading their shot shape or distances correctly. It's so common that the community has coined a term for it, called "Indoor Swing Syndrome." Here's the Deal When you first start hitting balls indoors, there are many factors that can make you swing differently fro

I know of no setup variable that will affect ball speed or launch angle. As such, there really is nothing that affects distance, so the distances are either accurate, or your unit is totally miscalibrated.
Chances are very high that the unit is accurate, as there has only been a very small number proven inaccurate, and many many users have realized that indoor swing syndrome is a real thing, and typically resolves itself.
I say just swing normally, don't worry about distance shot to shot, but do look at averages daily. It should be going up slowly. You may want to hit a few off a short tee to rule out mat issues, and also make sure to use a newerish premium ball.

Thank you for your comments and suggestions, and as you both pointed out, the problem was with the setup, alignment and getting the height of the device matching the mat. Unit is working as it should now, again thanks for the assistance.

Happy that you got it sorted. Still a bit odd. Alignment has zero impact on distance/ball speed. Misalignment just affects starting direction ... degree for degree.
Height is important, as wrong height results in no reads, and some whack obvious misreads, particularly HLA. You should not have dispersion that "looks about right" if the unit is at wrong height. Wrong height should not affect distance much.
Most common mistake is putting the feet in FMJ and leaving unit on mat ... so it is way high.
