First bag mapping and things aren't right.

I just purchased a used skytrak that I got a good deal on. Hit a few shots and then went and did the bag mapping and things are pretty far off. I know people say that there is an indoor swing phenomenon, but my swing felt good. I'm using a fiberbuilt practice station (https://shop.carlofet.com/fiberbuilt-practice-station) with the skytrack sitting on some wood a few mm above the hitting surface with a new prov1.

I was consistently about 15-30 yards left, which wasn't a problem and figured I have to figure out how to align the skytrak. The problem was distances. With my 60 I typically play 90-100 yards. I was hitting most in the 60 yard range. I tried to put one back in my stance and launch it and I couldn't get more than 75 yards of carry. Things kept being on the shorter side by about 20-30 yards, then it got really weird with my 7-4 irons as they all had really short 100 yard carry distances even though they felt really good. Zero chance my 4 iron average carry distance is 106 yards.

I'm not a + but hover in the 3-6 hcp range, so know these distances aren't accurate.

Did I buy a dud? Any way to figure it out? Suggestions?

On the plus side I thought I'd be frustrated with mis-reads but only had one when I tried to swing out of my shoes with a 6 iron after the carry distances were like 90 yards.

Additionally every shot has a really low ball speed at like 80-95 mph.

So contacted skytrak and they said the unit has had over 433 million shots and recommended it be sent in for diagnostics/repair... pretty impressive it can take that many shots.

That cant be right. Thats 1000 shots a day for 1200 years or 10000 shots day for 120 years?

Do you have a pic of your setup? If it's on a board is your unit shaking as you swing? The unit is also picky and should be completely level while accounting for case thickness. Is there anything reflective in the background or on your clothes/shoes? Make sure to use good golf balls too as they can make a huge difference. Try using a tee too to make sure you aren't hitting your mat first as Fiberbuilt mats are great on joints but will kill your distance if hit before ball

Ha ha. Yeah previous owner called and was told there is some sort of glich where skytrak is seeing absurd number of shots.

This is the work in progress. I hope you are right with the shifting of the mat. There is movement of the insert in the mat where I have to push the insert down every couple shots. Also wondering if the base turf under my mat shifts with my body. I've taken away the rubber mat and fiber built pad and hit of the fake grass and still get very low ball speed and carry distance (skytrak moved to the level of the turf when hitting off the fake grass). The fake grass is pretty spongy which I liked as it deadens the balls coming back. Under all this is carpet, which also likely adds to the spongy feel.

I used a level to ensure the hitting surface is level with the base of the case. Also made sure the case was level to the hitting surface. Nothing reflective as I've been wearing black socks. I'm using new ProV1's. Hitting off a tee with driver still gets pretty short results with slow ball speed. 179 average driver carry is definitely inaccurate.

Taking the skytrak to a place tomorrow that has shot tracer so will be able to compare ball speeds with something else.

To me it looks like the board is level with the black mat but the grass is higher? Hard to tell. How far is the red dot from the Skytrak? It should be about 12"

Yeah the board is below the mat portion, but the protective case has adjustable legs that bring it level with the hitting turf.

Took the unit to a place with top tracer and the ball speed and carry distance was pretty much the same. Must be my mats or lighting.

I don't think I have ever seen a Skytrak that has inaccurate ball speed, so no surprise.
                      • How did your ball speed compare between home and wherever you went?
                      • Indoor swing is very real, and most people don't feel it.
                      • Use footspray and check impact location.
                      • It is very challenging to hit a 60 off a mat, and you will not get the same launch angles or spin that you do off fairway, and by extension, not the same distance.
                      • Lighting does not have any bearing on distance. It can lead to no-reads if shining into laser curtain or sensors. Skytrak needs no extra light, and works fine in the dark.

Try blocking the white projector from the Skytraks field of view. Anything white like shoes, golf shafts, and club heads seems to cause misreads.

Ball speed at home is stuck around 80ish mph with the 4 iron and at the top golf with top tracer it was in the 140s.

I really don't think this is a problem with my swing. I'm swinging as hard as I can at home and can't get above 90mph ball speed with my 4 iron.

Think it has to be a mat issue. Ended up buying a GC2 so we'll see if it still has the same problems. If it does guess I'll have to go with a different mat set up.

Weird thing is I'm not having any mis-reads just ball speeds and therefore distances that are way too low. So odd that everything from 9 iron to 4 iron on the bag mapping was stuck in the 100-110 yard range inside.

Took the mat outside and its definitely the mat. I loose a lot of speed with this mat. I take pretty big divots on natural turf so maybe it's just not compatible with my swing.

I compared the skytrak with a gc2 on the mat and they were both about the same with low ball speed and therefore distance. Switched to the ground and ball speed and distance were what I expected with both units. Guess I'm now getting a new mat.

For the price the skytrak is surprisingly accurate. The only downside is the 3 second lag as I almost never have mis-reads.

                              Take a look here https://fiberbuiltgolf.com/pages/hit...urface-options.

If you are a deep divot taker you have a decision to make if you practice a lot. If you cant shallow out your swing plan on visiting the wrist doctor if you convert to a harder mat. The mat you have is designed to minimize wrist and and injuries particularity for those using steel iron shafts with a steep angle of attack.
