  • Skytrak not registering every shot

I have had the Skytrak for 4-5 days, and have used it every day. The last couple of days, more and more shots are not being registered. It has even come to a point where I have had to power off the unit and power it back on. After a shot, normally the laser dot will go away, the unit will think, and the laser dot will re-appear, and the shot will show up on the ipad. But now, nothing unless I turn off my unit and restart it. Then it will work for a couple of shots, and then start missing them again. Of course I have tried experimenting on ball placement, in front of the laser dot, behind, next to it, I tried changing anything white in the background, making sure the black ball labels are facing the unit, etc....

I am using it on a 5x10 county club elite mat, so same mat as I hit on, same level. Any thoughts other than sending it back?

There's a good chance your skytrak isn't level. I've had mine for awhile and always thought cuz it was on the same surface, it has to be level.

I then put a level on it, and WOW, was I wrong. Go buy a $5 torpedo level and a pack of wood shims.

From my experience I might hit about 20 balls and then it stops registering. The first thing I try is replay of my last shot or go to the settings screen; Anything to "wake up" the device. The laser dot will usual flash after I do this and my shots start registering again. Give that a try. It's a lot faster than restarting the device.

Perhaps you should try uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Unregistered hits should be extremely rare. Leveling of the unit is important. The only shots I've had difficulty showing are flop shots.

Also try restarting your iPad completely (or whatever you're using).

if you are using white color shaft like KBS custom white shaft or matrix white shaft.. Skytrak cant read ball. i asked this problem to korea skytrak center. but they cant fix this.

does USA skytrak center know this?

good info thedancerjin. doubt USA skytrak support center knows this - as most of us on this forum are fully aware that USA skytrak support knows nothing.

That is what Skytrak customer service said as well, however, I think it is the unit itself because when the unit captures a shot, the 3 green lights go to 1 green and the red laser dot goes away as well, however, on mine, nothing happens with the unit, the laser stays there, all 3 lights still lit up. It is almost like it was said before, the unit is a sleep. I have removed everything white from the background as well, even wear black shoes and black socks to be safe. Thanks for all the help so far, hopefully we get somewhere.

I have had the same problem. In my case it was the WiFi router. Way to much traffic and bad quality connection.
I did direct mode for a while and then got some strange behavior with that as well.
All problems went away when I bought a new better router and located it closer to the garage.
The WiFi module in the Skytrak is one of those low cost units that is not very good. I suspect that they use UDP to send the image data and that could get lost if there is a bad connection.

Do we know that the image is created in the skytrak, ?? I had thus far assumed the numbers data were sent to the ipad and the app and then calculated into what becomes the image and that the skytrak was just for the measure of ball movement data ??
Just jumped on board with a SkyTrak August 2015 for my birthday present to myself.

skytrak only snaps pictures and sends them to the host. All the image processing and calculations happen on that side.

Any chance you are using the Skytrak outdoors or in direct sunlight? I was having issues with missed shots in an outdoor hitting bay until I shaded the teeing ground. Fixed the issue immediately and now nearly all shots will register.

So I uninstalled and then reinstalled the software and hooked it up with the network mode instead of the direct mode and so far so good. Only 2 missed shots in a little over an hour. I was all ready to ditch it and go with the flightscope but I think I will stay put for the moment. I feel the camera systems are better suited for indoor use over the radar.

Gumgator I had the exact same problem as you, which is what led to me returning my unit. It would read wedges fine, but it would hardly register any long irons. If the unit has to be so exactly leveled, I don't think it's something I want anyway. I'm currently debating between flightscope and foresight.

That's really strange - it doesn't sound like it was software related. The issue you are describing (laser always staying on during shot) sounds like the unit wasn't even getting triggered in the first place. The box triggering is step 1, so the software doesn't have anything to do with that. The only time I ever get no triggers is on a topped shot with zero or negative launch angle or flop shots. Please let me know if this continues to be a problem. The only other thing I could think of is battery - make sure it's charged. White club head etc. can be an issue for actually processing the images, but shouldn't affect the preliminary trigger of the unit - it would simply not process the shot.

If it's having any trouble with long irons, I'd bet 99% chance that the unit was too high. Was it sitting on the mat? On something else? Do you have a low launch? All these are factors and it may even be necessary, if you have too many playing against you, to have the unit off the mat on something slightly lower. It doesn't need to be exactly level - it has an accelerometer inside to compensate for that.

It was actually sitting on a piece of the mat, so it should have been very close to the exact same height as the hitting area.
I often do have a low launch, but nothing so dramatic that it wouldn't register. The problem I had believing it was my setup and not the unit itself was that it worked fine for the first few days. After I hit more and more balls, it just stopped registering the longer irons and hybrid / 3 wood
